Okay, I have a lot of expensive kitchen equipment. I will defend my outrageously expensive food processor to the death. But a $400 blender? How many smoothies can you make? And how many people find blending so complicated that they need copious preset tasks?

Forget the $400 blender. What's with the $3,200 espresso machine? I feel like I'm in a time warp!
Wait a minute. You're a libertarian, aren't you? Who are you to question market outcomes?
Bob's Field Theory of Wedding Gifts is: There ain't no such thing as too many blenders.
Until now.
The BlendTec Blender may not be good for making smoothies or what not, but it blends golf clubs, lightbulbs, a rake handle, and marbles.
It's not about practicality... it's about absurd levels of power and destruction.
I want one.

You mean this guy?
It takes a good blender to blend puppies.
I'd recommend a Vita-Mix instead. No preprogrammed settings, just a speed dial. Huge jar. They usually have them on sale at Costco for about $350 twice a year.
But, Megan, you're missing the whole point! Who gives a fig about smoothies? But if the machine will blend golfballs or Bic pens or iPhones or marbles or ...
What's $400 for the most entertaining kitchen appliance since Bass-o-Matic?

(No, I'm not a shill--just a fan.)
I don't blame you for some of your kitchen choices.
My mother has no need for new kitchen equipment. Her stuff works and she has some cooking skill. I, on the other hand, get a certain bit of confidence from having good equipment.
I have the same mixer as you (the smaller one) with the meatgrinder (and other)attachment. Quite the versatile beast, it is. I also have the same food processor. It's really something else. Blenders, on the other hand, are really something you can get my with a cheaper version.
I see you have a hand mixer. How about an immersion blender
It also seems like you are in need of an upgrade to your pots/pans. Try anything by All-Clad. My first piece was a 6 qt. saute pan A truly wonderful piece of equipment. And, yes, it's $250.
Or a Lodge cast iron skillet. Super cheap, too.
Is Megan now the appliance blogger for the Atlantic? Can someone please make this stop?

When has she ever blogged about appliances before? Seriously isn't the whole blog-style to mix in a little of the mundane or silly with the serious? She's far from alone in that.
An old girlfriend's mom gave us a Vita-mix for Christmas one year. I thought it was an odd gift at first, but I have to admit that thing could do anything.
I don't think we ever used it to grind grain, but if I remember right I think the old metal ones could actually bake bread.
$400 dollars for a mixer, and it has a plastic "jar"? Obviously no frozen margaritas or daquiris at your house parties.

I suppose the point is to be the guy with the $400 blender. You know?
