All right, my eMusic subscription has a few songs left on it. Suggestions?

Jesus Christ, by Brand New.

Honeycomb, by Helium.

The Sun God, by Hi Tek, featuring Talib Kweli.

Something Vague, by Bright Eyes.

"In the Garden of Eden" by I. Ron Butterfly

Something different than the usual hipster stuff: "You Keep it all in" by The Beautiful South.

Dan Bern, "Lithuania"

at 11 minutes, it's not just a great song, it's a great bargain

Cliks, a Montreal band with a great transgender singer.

The 1900s. They're the coolest band alive right now. Listen to these two songs.

Joe Strummer! Everything from Global-a-Go-Go except for "Minstrel Boy."

Buddy and Julie Miller. Everything from the eponymous 2001 release. (Assuming, based on your fondness for Hem, that you are not twang-impaired.)

The entirety of AC Newman's *The Slow Wonder*.

Jonathan Coulton, "Skullcrusher Mountain."

Ha! I have already found the 1900s on your blog and am listening to them RIGHT NOW, and also, trying to figure out if I can see them at the Rock and Roll Hotel in October or if they've been cancelled along with the 1990s. Email coming your way later today.

Incidentally, if you haven't found them already, highly recommend downloading Georgie James' album which is out today and of which the 1900s very much put me in mind.

"Jonathan Coulton, "Skullcrusher Mountain."

Megan can download that free from Coulton's website. She can also download one of his better songs -- "Mandlebrot Set," or his cover of "Baby Got Back", for example. And if she likes what she hears, a blog post about it would probably put more scratch in Coulton's pocket indirectly than her buying his songs for a dollar each.

inside and out by feist

Les Savy Fav - Patty Lee
I will continue to push the Bloc Party...maybe Banquet or Waiting for the 7.18

Lloyd Cole and the Negatives. "What's wrong with this picture"; "Negative attitude"; "Impossible girl". 80s britpop through a New York lens, darkly.

1234 - Feist
Hello Hammerheads - Caribou
Myriad Harbour - The New Pornogaphers
Modern Timing - Roisin Murphey
Foundations - Kate Nash
With Every Heartbeat - Robyn ft Kleerup

Random play on my mp3 player earlier today came up with a song from The Waif's A Brief History that I got a couple years back but haven't listened to in a bit. The whole CD is very good but a few in particular are ...

Lighthouse
Brain Damage
Love Serenade
Fisherman's Daughter
Willow Tree

Citizen (World)

A few I've recommended before but are worth mentioning again...

Nomo - Fusiony Jazz-Funk

Ettison Clio - "This is for the Blue Collars" -the only good Emo band - try the song "Infectious"

the new Editors album

Tresspassers William - Shoegazery stuff - also wins the award for best reference to Winnie the Pooh in a band name.

If you've not yet checked out Boxer by The National, do so. It's one of the best, most distinctive albums on the year.

Freezepop. Silly fun synthpop!

Already have Boxer, and agree that it's great.

"Rodeo Road" Ian Tyson

"Lake Charles" Lucinda Williams

"I Just Left Myself" Terry Allen

"It's Easy" J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton

"Pacheco" Kate Wolf

"Little GTO" Ronnie and the Daytonas

"Shake your Rugulator" by Bonerama. Straight up New Orleans brass funk

Jesus Christ by Brand New, dammit.

It's Wednesday now and you've probably already downloaded your songs, but what the hey. If you haven't yet, you need to hear The Mountain Goats. The problem is picking a song. (They have several hundred.)

If you want old, solo, acoustic sweetness, try "Bluejays and Cardinals." For modern, ridiculously sad reflections about dead abusive step parents, try "Pale Green Things." For that great Awkward Lyric That Only John Darnielle Can Get Away With, which is one of the band's signatures, get "Going To Georgia" or "Against Pollution."

Seriously, get some Les Paul.

Jonathan Storch

The Animal Years by Josh Ritter. I got it a month ago--best first impression in years. Still great.

"Ootishenia," "The Littlest Birds," and "Broken Telephone," all by The Be Good Tanyas. And you might want more after that. They're good.

JMW, good call on the Be Good Tanyas. I personally love their "Lakes of Ponchatrain".

I'd also suggest something from Irish folk punk band The Tossers. "Altercations" or "Come Dancing" would be a good start.

Goldfrapp - Pilots on a Star
Goldfrapp - Strict Machine
Goldfrapp - Utopia
Goldfrapp - Ooh La La

Balkan Beat Box - Hungarian Chicks

Portishead - Cowboys
Portishead Roseland Live NYC album

Anything by Boozoo Bajou

Morcheeba's first album, "Who can you Trust?" especially track "Almost Done"
