Just add feathers and you'll have a perfect chickenhawk.

Ewwwww.... of course, the cigarette sets off the outfit nicely.

MoeLarryAndJesus, that's halfway to funny, and completely unfair. Few journalists have been as eager to wade into dangerous warzones than hitchens.

Yeah, he was really something once. But that was a far country, and besides the wench is dead.

Since ML&J brought up chickenhawks, and was defending the character of the much-maligned jackass just a few days ago, I'm sure he won't mind if I link to a post containing pictures of (a) a chickenhawk, and (b) the precise opposite of same. Click here if you dare.

Hitchens is obsessed with himself or is it his self like so many in our narcissistic culture so my question is why would anyone waste his or her time to read such garbage. Who really cares! Oh, yes, Hitchens cares, and probably Andrew Sullivan.

There's something admirable about Hitchens. He's kind of scary, I admit, but his honesty and articulateness make me want to invite him to dinner.

Hitchens is a unique and valuable writer who has suffered a massive mind fart over the invasion of Iraq. While I realize he has many friend in that part of the world, and had high hopes that they would have better lives as a result of the invasion, he failed to take into account the fact that Bush and Cheney are stupid, greedy, incompetent fools who care more about making money for themselves and their fatcat supporters than they do about abstractions like "freedom" or "decency." There was never a chance that this war, led by those creatures, would have a good result.

It's a great photograph, and the second one of him shaving, cigarette in mouth, is also really good.

I too like the second one, actually a bit more. But VF has always had great photography.

Great photo. Funny article, too -- sort of like the cityboy counterpart to one of Keillor's drawling Lake Woebegone monologues on a Prarie Home Commpanion.

Except funny.

MoeL, me laddy, I don't want to know what you would find funny. Mostly because, if you ever found it, I'm fairly certain three or four federal agencies would be called out to deal with the aftermath.

Under the current regime they don't seem to be able to deal with anything, but check out jesusandmo.net, which is very funny. Or you could just get some Bill Hicks cds.

Well, you can discuss that with Robert Capa. But I have to admit, it's a great portrait, and for some reason, just what I thought Christopher Hitchens would look like.

Kind of boring. I've seen this in so many Urban Individualist-Artist photos over the years.

Questionable value.
