And in all fairness, said commenter's sig indicates that he's from Portland, Oregon. If you spent that much of the year living under low clouds and rain, you might also take up the recreational abuse of coffee beans, tea leaves, and Democratic policies.
CBS uses forgeries, but FOX regularly tags such Republican notables as Mark Foley with a (D) after their name. I'm pretty sure neither side comes out ahead on this one.
FOX regularly tags such Republican notables as Mark Foley with a (D) after their name. I checked the first ten hits for "Mark Foley" on the foxnews.com site, and zero of them had him tagged as a Democrat. Could you give a link to one of the "regular" occurances? Anyway -- yes, Ann Coulter is evil incarnate.
Dan, they did it repeatedly when the scandal first hit, and then scrubbed the web site and all images of their broadcast when they were caught at it. Of course you won't find it on their site, but you will find screen captures on other sites. I think that there is something that most conservatives and liberals can agree on which is that Ann Coulter is a reprehensible human being. I don't understand why, as a feminist I would have a problem acknowledging that.
Funny that "Ann Coulter: Is she or isn't she" gets so much play, whilst the vast majority of the Nation's citizens are laboring 6 months out of the year in the attempt to fund "a" Government that still can't manage to balance its Budgets. No wonder Barnum was in the 'circus' business.
Is Coulter actually correct in asserting that no Democratic president would have been elected in modern times given only the male vote? Is the politicial sex divide really that large? Given her record, it seems questionable, but I haven't seen avyone contradict her assertion with data yet. Certainly in the early days of women's sufferage, there was a wide cleft. One of the arguments made against women's sufferage was that women would use their newfound voting rights to support all sorts of nanny-state laws against drinking and gambling and other male vices. And that argument turned out to be entirely correct. (Yes, the 18th amendment did -- just barely -- come before the 19th, but by 1919 many states had given women the right to vote, and the temperence movement was dominated by women.) But I would be surprised if the cleft was still so large today. To understand the issue, one really needs to go beyond just looking at sex-party correlations do a principal factor analysis. It could be, for instance, that women tend to be poorer than men, and poorer people tend to vote Democratic, and the correlation could be explained by that. Can anyone point to such an analysis?
Ah, the things I would do to Ann Coulter. With or without her consent.
Lest my previous comment be misinterpreted...no. No, it means exactly what you think it means. I would totally send her an unsolicited pie. Cherry pie.
Is the politicial sex divide really that large? Well, only two Democrats have won the Presidency since Johnson's 1964 landslide, and both won by fairly small margins (Carter in particular).
The 1996 presidential vote, in which Clinton won his second term, is probably the Democrats' best showing in modern times. And at least according to the demographic data in the Wikipedia article on that election, Coulter's assertion appears to be correct. If only men's votes had counted in that election, the vote would have been Clinton 42%, Dole 44%, and Perot 11%. That's really amazing. Of course, that still doesn't show whether there is a sex-party correlation after one controls for other factors.
David Wright - the sex divide is really that large, but I think Clinton still would've won, at least in '92, even without women voting. Without Perot he probably would've lost both times, but that's a different issue.
Josh is right. I just crunched the numbers and the male vote in 1992 was Clinton 41%, Bush 38%, Perot 21%. (I had assumed 1996 was better for the Democrats than 1992, but clearly that isn't true by all measures.) So it appears that Coulter's claim is ruled out. I suppose it might still pencil out for her if one breaks down the vote by state and looks at the electoral college results, but that seems unlikely. And I suppose she could still claim that no Democrat has won a majority of the male vote in modern times, but that's getting rather far from her initial claim, since in a world without female sufferage we would presumably still have plurality elections.
For those interested, google ["foley (d-fl)" fox] About Coulter, when someone makes a grossly immoral proposition, and contends that it would have a certain result, the matter of argument isn't whether their conclusions are correct.
It probably won't make me a hero to feminists if I point out what a despicable gorgon Ann Coulter is... Sure, feminists really like Ann.
It's so true about Ann Coulter! She's ugly! And maybe even a man! (as one of Beutler's commenters notes). Ha! I'm glad you are not afraid make fun of her appearance, because that's the best way to go at her. And I'm sure that Ann Coulter really thinks women should lose the franchise! She's totally not kidding there! Can all of you stop so I can dislike Ann Coulter without being associated with this stuff? This is at least as weird as people making fun of Michael Moore for his weight.
Njorl, seems the AP made the same mistake. For those interested, google ["foley (d-fl)" ap] I await the lefts "witty" name-calling for the AP. By the way, Fox isn't still claiming Foley is a Democrat, unlike CBS on the forgeries.

Grendel had a mother. Does he not know the Beowulf story or does Mr. Beutler merely assume his readers aren't that well read?
The comments are amusing. CBS can use obvious forgeries on a national news story, but it's FOX that is "faux".
All it needs now is a reference to "rethuglicans".
