Super homo economicus

Understanding economics, says Scott Adams, is like having a mild superpower. I'm pretty fond of economics. But I'm not sure I wouldn't rather be able to fly or shoot flames out of my hands.

After reading his example, how to avoid speeding tickets, I don't really understand how you need knowledge of economics to arrive at his conclusions (which are flawed anyway, so...maybe you do need to think like an economist to arrive at them ;)).

It can be dangerous to assume that government runs like a business, as Adams does.

And if you do want to fly, Megan, check out Southwest. They're wonderful. ;-)

Hmm. That's almost as impressive as the superpower of irritating your friends with an innate sense of self-assuredness, deconstructing all arguments about everything from the supply of lettuce to marriage proposals into an IS-LM graph, and never ever getting invited to dinner parties. m

Well, on the plus side of Stephen's critique, you get to be in some pretty good company
