Thank God for Skype. Thanks to Skype, I can call everyone I miss back home. (Well, almost everyone: the rest of you, the postcards are on the way).
But it's no substitute for being there, y'know? I'm just saying: it'll be a cold day in hell before this replaces personal contact.

Skype is an excellent example of the economic environment in Europe compared to the US. The US is much more friendly to entrepreneurship (in terms of regulatory relaxedness, lower capital gains taxes, less language barrier, etc.) For this reason, the US has its Googles, Ciscos, Amazons, while Europe's only notable startup recently was Skype.
It's no surprise that much of the S&P 500 didn't exist 30 years ago, while large-cap European indexes are filled with only old companies.
