This flash game is one of the most addictive video games I've ever played; it rivals Solitaire and heroin for sheer mindless pleasure. I don't recommend that you try it, exactly, but if you're looking for something that's hella fun to suck up a weekend, you might give it a go.

Don't frackin' do it. Since I saw the link from Slate.com, I haven't been thinking about much else. I found myself designing a surface-area-maximizing pattern on my shower tiles this morning.
I turned in a journal article late because of this game. Don't start if there is anything that you need to do in the next week (like sleep).
I prefer this one:

Almost failed my PhD qualifying exams because of this game. It took a week's worth of all-nighters to salvage my academic career.
This is an interesting genre of games (known generally as 'tower defense games' - duh) that appeared suddenly a few years ago and has exploded (do a Google search on 'tower defense games').
I've wasted lots of time on many of them. :-) The one I'm currently playing is called "Rails of War", where you build an armed train and take it through a countryside filled with both fixed and mobile elements. ..bruce..
Don't click on it unless you want to see rings of tiny towers every time you close your eyes.
But if you do, concentrate your air defenses in the middle of the map.
I remember when Tower Defense was just a bunch of buggy custom maps for Starcraft. Good times.
That flash game (I too followed the link from the Slate article) threatened to destroy my finals week until I discovered the secret: just go water towers all the way. The fancy alternatives are all sizzle and no steak. Bash, swarm, dart? Distractions. As with so much else, mastery of the fundamentals will get you where you need.
This sort of game started out, I think, as mods for starcraft/warcraft.
Heroin, huh? So you finally overcame your aversion to vomiting?
When I put that spike into my vein...
You too, huh?
It feels like we're living the plot of badly written sci-fi TV.
That episode wasn't all bad: it introduced us to Ashley Judd.
Wow. Saw this post, clicked on the link, played for a while, realized it was 2:30 am, went back to playing until the sun started to rise, went to sleep, dreamed about Tower Defense, woke up, vowed to stay away from Tower Defense forever.
This truly is the crack cocaine of free internet games.
