Obama wants Craigslist-like volunteering database.

A Craigslist for volunteers! Why didn't someone think of that before?

Update A commenter points out that he wants a "Craigslist-like" database, not a Craigslist database. This implies that Craigslist is insufficiently like Craigslist. Or perhaps it is too much like Craigslist. So we want something that is like Craigslist, but not like Craigslist. Have I got that straight?

He doesn't want a Craigslist volunteer database, he wants a Craigslist-Like volunteer database. Presumable one created and operated by the US government.

bcause you know that open source free-for all stuff is scary... someone might says something bad without some control, and naturally we will need a full database of information so that we can identify miscreants, complete with unique identifiers...

Reminiscent of when Gore proposed that there should be some sort of government program on the radio that, for example, informed commuters about bad traffic and weather nearby. Perhaps somewhat more to it than that, but easy to ridicule when entire radio stations make their name doing almost nothing but that.

They already have that:

Obama's a, what, oh right: a politician. Therefore Travis had it exactly right in his last sentence. If it isn't run and/or controlled by the gummint, it either 1) does not exist, or 2) is too dangerous for "the people" to use.

Based on my experience with the front-ends of other government databases, he probably thinks that craigslist is fine except that the UI is insufficiently confusing and ugly.
