Wonkette went all the way to Texas to report:
.
To most American political fanatics, Ron Paul is just a goofy hobbit whose hilariously doomed online presidential campaign provided standout entertainment in a year that offered a wealth of hilariously doomed campaigns.
But to many of his constituents in Texas Congressional District 14, Ron Paul is just a blame-America-first attention whore who completely ignores the people who put him in office. There are no Democrats running in the 14th District primary next Tuesday — so if Ron Paul loses, he will have the honor of being a double loser in the eyes of his beloved constituents. With this in mind, Wonkette enthusiastically endorses Chris Peden for Congress.
To be sure, I'd probably be happier if more congressmen busied themselves proposing no-hope bills to make a point. But when your congressman is the only one doing it, while all the other representatives focus on piling up the pork, you probably begin to wonder if you aren't missing the main chance.

One can almost smell a collective action debate beginning.
I wish you a painful death, you fucking neocon bitch
Geez, another mAnn Coulter wannabe. If google didn't manipulate their searches, I doubt anyone would even glance in her direction.
Ron Paul will annihilate Chris Peden in the primaries, even with Diebold on board.
Idiot bloggers poking fun at a seasoned Congressman who obeys the Constitution and serves the people.
It really shows that any moron with a keyboard can be a "journalist".
Get bent.
Ron Paul is an intelligent, principled congressman who stands up for the constitution.
He is the only candidate in the race worthy of the presidency.
If the media and mainstream bloggers would show him the respect they are giving Obama, he would be our next president.
Terrible article.... How on earth do you manage to breath? And for that matter, how did you even find this internet thingy.
Paul is beating Peden by over 60 percentage points (Paul: 72%; Peden 11%), has about ten times the money and only about 20% of TX-14 residents have any idea Peden even exists. It's not going to even be close.
http://www.reason.com/blog/show/125162.html
Wonkette: still irrelevant.
Asymmetrical information indeed, as must also be the writer's brain. I hope you have a great time helping run this country into the ground.
Ron Paul is a great guy. He's actually the only honest candidate and the best candidate.
Steven Seagal should be sent to break the arms of the writer of this article! He should throw them around, embarass and beat the hell out of the writer first and then break the arm.
I'm voting for Ron Paul in November 2008, write in vote!
wonkette? she knows that using Ron Paul's name in an internet article guarantees clicks which I'm certain she is desperate for. she is philosophically bankrupt and probably economically unsteady as well. but at this point it appears someone or thing is funding her assault on the Champion of the Constitution. BTW you can't post on her site without being "monitored".
Megan,
You have only proven once again that the MSM pundits need to grow up and get a real job. But that's ok MSM is loosing it's edge. Major newspapers around the nation are loosing readership the industry reports an avg. 6% loss in readership in 07 but note this is a back to back loss for the last 5 years. Even major magizines such as time are reported readership loss. So the truth of major newspapers is that they have lost about 28% over the last four years...
Also, take into account that major talk radio like Rush, Hannity and Beck are loosing market share and there own websites have declined in readership by almost 20% over the last 6 months.
It you add MSM news from Fox, CNN they report a loss as well and even the share price of MSM is down as well.
In the 60's, 70's and 80's we as American's received more accurate news but now the MSM is nothing more then tabloid journalism.
Megan the point is either report real news about presidential candidates or pass it to someone who can.
I have supported Ron Paul for over five years and I have known him to be a real gentleman, a man of complete integrity even more so then my own pastor at my church. Ron Paul's values are served up handsomely by our founding fathers ideals and since when did such adherence offered just cause for a 9th grade school level attack?
Megan, either report the news or get another job because we don't care what your intention was with your little rant... By the way I have personally meet you before and I thought I was in the presence of a real lady with real class but you have proven that my summary of you was incorrect... So I liken you to all the other pundits who imply they love American when they themselves like Hannity or Beck have forgotten our true foundation that made our nation once great.
In closing Megan I would suggest you read the law of the land a few times and support limited gov and use your real skills to expose those who do not support our founding fathers then attack one of few men who does.
I expect to see improvements with your next post and if not I will send a letter to the editor then simply stop reading any news alert which bears your name. I'm sure others will take the same approach.
Ronulans still around I see. I'd use "Paulbots" but that would unfairly malign my own name.
This tool of a woman has taken shots at Dr. Paul before. She does it because she is desperate for hits on her blog and she knows if she makes reference to Dr. Paul people will peek at her little page. Good for her. That's the free market.
Dr. Paul's message is one of freedom and personal liberty, so mini-mind Meg has the freedom to be as ignorant as she wants.
Vote for Ron Paul and his message.
If you view Dr. Paul's bills as "no hope" attempts than you show your true allegiance. You view America as a hopeless cause. You think that because Dr. Paul goes against the grain of corrupt policies and politicians his ideals are not valid? He doesn't fit in, I view that as a good thing. I am glad you have posted your ignorance for all to see. People like you are helping our cause. Keep up the ignorance.
Thanks.
Coward.
Megan, so I see you are officially “Pro Pork”. It sounds like your attitude is “if you can’t beat them, you should join them”. That makes you part of the problem in this country.
At least Ron Paul has the courage to take a stand and try to make things better. I don’t see how your ridicule of someone like Ron Paul makes the world a better place.
Quit being a coward and spend your time learning and writing about real issues. For example, learn about how the printing of money by the Federal Reserve hurts the middle class and the poor. Did you know that your Grandmother and Grandfather’s bank CD investments that they are counting on are actually losing money through inflation caused by the Federal Reserve?
Having watched Ron Paul for over twenty years , I would trust him to hold my wallet . I'm sad to say that there is no one else in politics that even comes close to his integrety . What I'm really sad for are all of the fallen american soldiers who have given their lives and the American children . A waste of the past and no hope for the future . We as a people should be ashamed !

I can only WISH that my district congresscritter would waste his/her time campaigning for president rather than "getting things done" or what have you. Since congress' business is, y'know, PLUNDERING THE CITIZENRY, I'd generally prefer they stay home or play golf than do any "work".
Probably most posters are too young to recall, but when Barry Goldwater ran against LBJ in 1964, the slimeballs dredged up some unprofessional psychiatrist who, without ever having met Senator Goldwater, diagnosed him based on press reports of things Goldwater supposedly had said or done, as being some flavor or another of crazy. He was painted as being some variation on a Dr. Strangelove, a film that came out that year.
At the time I was very young and leaned toward LBJ, but I remember the libelous slurs circulating and being repeated widely.
In fact, Goldwater was perfectly sane and rational and in later years was responsible in large measure for both ending the military draft and disengaging from the Viet Nam fiasco. (Some Dr. Strangelove...)
What was insane was that in a campaign of ideas, it was easier for political discourse to slide into name calling and slander than to actually deal with the substance and merit of the ideas and policies.
Perhaps it was a mark of the civility and political naivete of the Goldwater forces that while their candidate was being diagnosed by unprofessional professionals and pundits as literally insane, the Goldwater people ridiculed LBJ with the epithet "Light Bulb Johnson" because LBJ made political capital at the time he was running record budget deficits of the fact that he had some of the light bulbs disconnected in the White House so as to "save money."
Talk about asymmetry.
Of course a few years later, Ronald Reagan picked up Goldwater's torch and became the most popular President since FDR and was responsible for ending the Cold War (although the last bricks fell after he left office, when in effect Mr. Gorbachev tore down that wall).
It looks to me as if history is repeating. Like Goldwater, Ron Paul represents a choice, not an echo, to borrow one of Goldwater's campaign slogans. (Which is fine with Goldwater's son, former California Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr., who has endorsed and at times traveled with Congressman Paul during his campaign.)
Shame on those who slur lie and libel, or who approvingly quote those who do.

I did - it's a shame that they have this woman on staff. She is an insult to 'objective' journalism and only serves to undermine and give an ill name to the Atlantic news organization.
Further proof that anyone with a keyboard can post mindless rants under the guise of 'intellectual opinions'.
This crap needs to stop...
I've been following wonkette.com for a few months now and after posting pro liberty/sound money arguments @ wonkette.com I get the following - "Comments are not enabled for this account"
And after reading comments on wonkette it seems they all chirp the same tune and follow the same sheep herder. It's sad and disgusting how afraid the admins at wonkette are. It must be a DC thang....
I hate to see ANTI AMERICAN posts like this one.
Dr. Ron Paul might just be the LAST STATESMAN standing in Washington.
The funny thing is that Wonkettetards are mostly far lefties who would puke on Peden under any other circumstances. They've just had it in for Ron Paul especially, for stealing the thunder of their Paper Tiger Democratic candidates. The only thing hilarious about Ron Paul's primary on the web is to see far lefty bloggers team up with pork-promising neo-con nobody Chris Peden.
Well, at least their own pick can join Ron Paul's presidential fortunes when he manages the expected 25% against Paul next Tuesday.
I do have a lot of sympathy for many of Ron Paul's positions, and agree with quite a few of them. But if he thinks that kind of honesty will have a receptive audience in today's Republican party, then yes he is crazy. I mean that in as respectful of a way as possible. He's crazy in the good, Man of La Mancha sense. He's fighting a doomed battle, and there's something magnificent about that.
Megan, FYI...your glasses don't make you look smart, and the pony tail fails to pull your sagging chin skin into place.
Your article reflects your hatred of the constitution. That's all I got from it. You must be a neocon terrorist. Congrats! You are a brainwashed, hateful person. Good luck in hell.
First off... It's sad some of the name calling and mud slinging in some of these posts. It does no good and some need to see an anger management counselor. That being said, it's a sad day for America when someone with honesty and integrity is considered kooky or, as you put it, "just a goofy hobbit whose hilariously doomed online presidential campaign provided standout entertainment in a year that offered a wealth of hilariously doomed campaigns". It's time to cry for a country that would think that anyone sincere who does everything possible to save the country we are living in from the one's who want it down the drain to line their own pockets or to see a global government take away our sovereignty is "offbeat". Things are happening today that would make those who came before us and sought to build a better future would grieve over and all you have the time to do is promote such an agenda? As my son would say "you need to get a life" now while you still can because you won't be able to without someone's permission shortly.
Enjoy your slavery and keep believing that the Government loves you and does everything in your best interest. Keep writing for your pathetic Neocon company and sell your soul to hell.
How much dumber do pundits come than the hacks at the Wonkett?! I mean really, "Attention whore"?!
All politicians seek attention to get elected or re-elected. Many spend all they can afford to get attention.
When you are that blatantly stupid, you have to wonder about the caliber of their readers.
Go ahead and complain to the editor: letters@theatlantic.com
By all means do so! They deserve to enjoy the same horselaugh the rest of us are getting from watching this anthill get sugared.
One more time, just in case it actually sticks with anyone: Ron Paul's middle name is "Ernest", not "Apostle", and he has never been known to perform miracles. So, anytime you guys want to stop acting like a cult...
Personally I wish all our politicians would go to Washington and do allot less. My God there is no need for all the damn laws and rules. Life should not be that complicated. Even if you are not a Christian there are only 10 laws that should rule this world. We don't need anything else. Most of our leaders break them without a second thought.
Ron Paul is the only candidate in the race committed to stopping the Trans Texas Corridor, currently being built. That is why he is being marginalized by the ignorant media who do not know that the multi-billion dollar project to pave the U.S. with toll roads has so much money riding on it, the foreign companies involved will stop at nothing to get it done. McCardle can starve to death with her children and the rest of the people of the United States after John McCain or Obama or Hillary push the Trans Texas Corridor through. Just this southern leg of the NASCO NAFTA Superhighway alone will wipe out the best, most productive, most economically farmed land in the entire world. There is no other farmland remotely similar to what we have here, in the path of the TTC. It is the highest, driest land in the nation with deep bedrock, high water table, a year round growing season for most of the half million acres they plan to pave, good rainfall, and a nutrient pool within 5 feet of the soil surface. This land feeds the world. It is called "The Bread Basket" and without it, the globe will face starvation. Also, to be put out of operation, the apiary that supplies MOST of the European queen honey bees for the globe. This apiary has not been challenged by the ecological factors impacting honeybees throughout the nation and has succeeded in continuing to provide pure strain, European queens. If they relocate, they will lose the area that has allowed them to maintain their population of honeybees without damage, and the world may very well lose European honeybees forever. With the disappearance of the honeybee, and the loss of the bread basket, the world will face famine beyond imagining. McCardle, only the stupid are so arrogant as to believe they know what is really going on in the corrupt circles of Washington. You insult the only man in this presidential race who is smart enough to try to preserve your food supply. You might very well succeed in driving Ron Paul out of the race. When you face famine in 5 to 10 years, when all of your money can't buy food, because there isn't any to be bought, just remember, this was your chance to come down on the side of right and try to protect your children from a global famine similar to Ethiopia's. The Trans Texas Corridor will cause more damage to the world's food supply than anyone in office could ever wrap their small minds around, and certainly ignorant reporters can't be expected to grasp the significance of such a project. Good luck, America. At least Ron Paul can say he tried. What will YOU say when you have voted yourself into famine? Blame yourselves. You are voting for the people who are pushing this project through, selling out your future comfort to foreign toll road companies.
Your mother should habe swallowed the load that made you.
Great argument Ms. McArdle. Everyone assert your snouts at the trough as the country nears bankruptcy.
You Megan are what's wrong the country.
Speaking of "attention whores",... this blog is barren save for tagging the good Doctor's name.
Wonkette is a creepy little liberal hangout. I visited it once and found nothing more than banal cynicism.

So you'd respect Ron Paul if he took the "if you can't beat them, joint them" path? Since when does honoring one's oath of office qualify them for ridicule? It is you that should be ridiculed for your contempt for that which is our Supreme Law. The mere fact that you'd post such crap demonstrates how F'd up this country is. Twenty or thirty years ago, publicly stating such garbage would give you a one-way ticket to the unemployment line - permanently as nobody would ever hire you.
You've listened to too much of your own propaganda. There ARE Americans who still care - a lot of us. We are going to reassert the Constitution and whores like you will be cast to the sewer where you belong.

Megan McArdle is all that is wrong with pretentious "girls" in the 21st century, who try & get involved in "cool' politics.
There are plenty if smart & passionate women in this country who are committed to understanding the mess of this Country & working to change things for he better.
Megan is not one.
Look at her generic write-up of herself:
"Megan McArdle was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and yes, she does enjoy her lattes, as well as the occasional extra dry skim milk cappuccino"
Let me know when she matures into a Women.
Serious "dad" issues here. For a girl to disrespect such a man as Ron Paul, betrays some deep issues. Bad mojo here. Hate to meet her in a dark alley: looking for a scapegoat.
Do many of the commenters on this post realize that this article was not written by Megan? She also does not seem to be particularly endorsing Wonkette's behaviour with her comments. I have rarely seen this kind of semi-hysterical bile in the comments of this blog, and can now understand why many people dismiss Ron Paul supporters as being rabid.
Keep up the good work Megan, I love your blog.
A product of the upper west side. New Yorkers from this area love to hate and anything goes as long as they get their share. A typical day involves smiling and laughing with residents from the multi-cultured neighborhoods and a kind of ceremonial cleansing among members of your own group where racial epitaphs are openly hurled at the blacks, the Jews, the gays, the Irish, the tenement dwellers, or whoever else you happened to run into during the day. Politicians from the area all have their hands out which leads to a twisted view of politics if you happen to grow up in the area. If you're Irish, your childhood heroes have names like Coonan and Spillane. The concept of a Constitutional Republic was replaced in the area by the rule of various bosses before the turn of the 19th century.
Still, you would think that someone named McArdle would understand the concept of oppression.
Wow - it is a tough one - who is more unhinged and irrelevant - Ron Paul or Skankette?
Answer - both!
I do think it's a shame this post got totally flooded out by misguided Paul supporters; such behavior ultimately plays right into the hands of everyone at Wonkette and the media in general who make Paul supporters out to be juvenile, cult members, etc. I read Wonkette myself and I don't see why people get so worked up about it; its just a political gossip site. Take it for what it is - entertainment. They've got to talk about something in lieu of a congressional scandal or major gaffe by one of the mainstream presidential candidates.
The sad thing is that although Ron Paul had some bizarro fixation on the Federal Reserve and was ultimately dogged by that unfortunate newsletter smear, he, like his Democratic analog Kucinich, also brought some very good points to the fore which, as usual, are being completely ignored in this election cycle. Yet again, we fail to have an honest public discourse about ending, or at least reassessing, some aspects of the war on drugs. Yet again we fail to take a strong position on putting to rest the overseas adventurism advocated in the Bush Doctrine. Yet again we fail to have any discourse at all about rolling back some of the worst excesses of the Bush security state e.g. the PATRIOT act, warrantless mass surveillance by the NSA in violation of FISA and the Constitution, the potential labeling American citizens as "enemy combatants", and zero accountability on the part of the executive branch in general.
Folks like Paul (and Kucinich) may seem a bit far afield, but I feel they are both fundamentally honest men who aren't beholden to the status quo or special interests. That, to me, is one of the most important things that you could ask for in a candidate. I would vote for either one of them over the current slate of mainstream contenders who we all knew would end up as such right from the start (what does it say about a so-called democracy when it is all so predictable?)
Recall that in this country as of late, only around 45% of the populace votes in the presidential election, and the percentage is often even lower than that in congressional and (heavens!) local elections. While I can't speak for everyone in the majority of the population that does not participate in the electoral system, I can't help but think that many feel disenfranchised by the options available to them. Why vote when none of the possibilities represent your beliefs?
We do need an alternative to the Third Way in the US. When will someone come along who can propose something different without going totally over the edge? Maybe a parliamentary system would help. "First past the post, winner take all" just isn't doing it.
Lisa,
I was considering whether or not to point this out as well, but figured that wouldn't be nearly as much fun as watching commenter after commenter make the same mistake.
Megan, you CFR, One Worlder shill, you choose to insult one of the very few honorable men in American politics. Our movement isn't about an election it is about a Revolution. It is not over until we win back our Constitution and the rule of law. Insipid pea brains like you are what is really irrelevant. The question is what kind of twisted freaks opposes Freedom, a right to your life, liberty, property and self determination, without "Big Brother" dictating your actions from the cradle to the grave? What kind of a country is so brain dead to have chosen McCane, Clinton and Obama as leaders. McCane is accused of carrying on with lobbyist, Obama of drug use and having sex with a man, and Hillary, everything from a death squad in Arkansas to a lesbian affair with her Muslim assistant. Megan are you really so dumb that you don't realize that we the people have lost control of this country?
I see the paultard brownshirts are pulling the typical holier than thou and just trying to shout down any dissent with insults. The fact is, so many of us in the 14th are just sick of Paul's little games. He has failed to represent us and instead, spends his time bashing our country.
Worse, while he claims to support us and oppose the TTC, in reality he has been funneling backdoor earmarks for it, upwards of tens of millions of dollars.
http://images.chron.com/content/news/photos/07/07/01/paul_earmarks/Transportation3.pdf
All of this, for his own personal narcissistic need for attention and of course, the money.
I suggest you research the 1988 Libertarian Embezzlement scandal that Paul was wrapped up in. Hundreds of thousands of dollars was embezzled from the campaign into various pockets and personal PACs. Paul's own campaign director went down for this. Look at his expense reports, he has paid himself millions out of his own PAC funds over the past decades. It is all a money making scheme for him, he just hit the jackpot this year. Imagine what is happening now that he has tricked people into donating tens of millions of dollars.
This whole campaign is a scam. From Paul's so called observance of constitutional principles to most of the grassroots effors (ie, Ron Paul Racing scam, etc.)
A reporter could have a field day with this if they were so inclined. Too bad they are all just sick of hearing constant threats from the Paultards.
I will be writing to my Congressman to get the Wonkette shut down permanently. Why my Congressman? Because he knows nothing of the Constitution and will do anything to get re-elected. If I want it, he'll do it.
Poor Megan, missing out on 'the main chance' to get her share of the 'pork'.
Megan, you and Wonkette are social parasites. Anything the government can give you was taken from someone else by threat of force.
Wonkette is a nasty piece of work. They spew forth a near-endless stream of vicious bile against Ron Paul. Are they even Americans? WHOIS shows their registration and admin contacts based out of Budapest, Hungary.
You know, it's so easy for a side-liner, like an internet journalist, to kick dirt on a good man when he's been knocked down in a hard fight. Kicking dirt on a man when he's down is also the sure mark of a stinking coward, Megan. I just bet you wouldn't say to Ron Paul's face what you write here. I say you don't have the nerve.
Yep, it's easy to be tough when you're hiding out in cyberspace somewhere, huh Megan?
I tell you, I admire Ron Paul. He obviously has a lot of faith, good or bad, in his mission. The rest of the so-called candidates quit when they didn't get the points. Guess they weren't really committed to their ideals. Just looking for some fast votes, ya think? Not committed to anything.
By any honest measure, I'd have to say Ron Paul believes in what he's doing, even tho the odds are really against him. Reminds me of a real hero, like a William Wallace fighting a English tyrannt. Or maybe, those brave fighters at the Alamo. Bad odds they faced, but they weren't quitters or shirkers. But you would know anything about that. You probably never participated in knock-down sports in school. You probably just sat on the sidelines, like you're doing now, passing judgement on something you don't have a clue about, and you wouldn't have the courage to do yourself. You're a dime-a-dozen, whoever and whereever you are...
Ron Paul also (very obviously) is the only truly honest man in the campaign on either side. But, an obtuse nitwit like you wouldn't realize that either.
And by the way Megan, if I remember my J.R.R. Tolkien correctly, his hobbits (Bilbo and Frodo, in particular) were fearless little climbers and doers. They kept on going despite great personal danger on their missions. But you wouldn't know about that either, would you? You're looking for that cushy little overpaid job with all the BS perks a lazy person hasn't really earned.
Old Ben Franklin
whatever jackass wrote this should do his/her research. Ron Paul has almost 80% percent support from his district. Most of those people have never even heard of Chris Peden. Did you guys know that Chris Peden raised 20,000 dollars towards his Congressional run and Ron Paul has so far raised over 500,000. Granted alot of that is coming from out of state but he is still gonna take it in a landslide. This schmuck didn't do his research. there have even been reports of the Peden campaign putting up false poll numbers in order to make it look like he is doing better than Dr. Paul. What a joke. He is no better than any other neo-con talking heads. He has stated that he wants to keep us in the middle east militarily until the end of the century at least...thats another 92 years folks....of constant battle in the Middle East.....he seriously stands no chance.....it's sad really....
Apparently both Ron Paul and his friend Kevin Kucinich are way ahead in their respective primary races:
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Texas_Release_022808.pdf
I think most people know that Megan was approvingly quoting she who will remain nameless.
Since some of the hostile posts are so atypical for Paul's supporters on blogs I have read, I have to wonder if they aren't from ringers planted in an effort to discredit the kindly if committed and persistent folks who support Ron Paul.
If so it would be one more kind of dirty trick in a campaign mugged and scarred by such shenanigans.
Wow, thanks for the link Steve R. It seems that Chris Peden is doing far better against Paul in Paul's own district than Paul is doing in his Presidential race. Great for someone who Paul's camp claims no one has heard of and the massive amount funds coming from out of district by Paul. Based on what you posted, and Paul's history of what he polls versus actual votes, Peden stands a decent chance. There may be something to this Peden thing after all.
Thanks again Steve R.
You have a right to your opinion. Please make statements based on research of Ron Pauls positions. Your opinion is based on anything but real knowledge of what Ron Paul stands for. SO - Have you an agenda? Are you looking for attention? Or are you just ignorant?
Long live free speach, and the freedom of ignorant bloggers like this one to get educated by peers like those who bother to reply to such a nonsensical artricle.
You advocate "representatives(that)focus on piling up the pork"? I personally find this offensive. I, also, am offended by some so-called journalist trying to ridicule Ron Paul and his supporters. I am sixty-year-old with a Master's degree. Also, I hope you are not pursuing writing as a lifetime career, because if this post is an example of your skill, I would give you an "F" in one of my freshmen writing classes. Don't you remember your college writing classes where you were taught about concrete evidence?
fuck u
fuck u
I don't care who's nominated. I'm writing in RON PAUL regardless that he has no chance. I'm doing that, on the same way he votes on unconstitutional laws, because of the PRINCIPLE!!!
I'd probably be happier if more congressmen busied themselves proposing no-hope bills to make a point.
Yes, but I'd prefer that they spend more energy on ending the War on Drugs and less on deregulating Milk Pasteurization.
You have a right to your opinion. Please make statements based on research of Ron Pauls positions. Your opinion is based on anything but real knowledge of what Ron Paul stands for. SO - Have you an agenda? Are you looking for attention? Or are you just ignorant?

Megan,
Thank you so much for your wonderful insite. I am now positive that this country is destine to become a dictaitorship with the help for you and the many other so called media hacks. Just because you personally dislike someone is no reason to perpetuate a myth or a lie.
Now that that is out of the way I would personally like you to remember when the time is here and you are starving because YOUR dollar that you earned doing BS is worth nothing your can count on me to feed you when you need it most. The only thing is that with you help we may be both eating cardboard when the government and politicians you love so much have ALL the wealth and your dollar will purchase nothing.
Good thing most Ron Paul supporters own gold, guns and an attitude.
When one reads through medieval history during church dominance over the states of Europe, one marvels that the servants of Catholicism could expend so much hate -- both in word and action -- against persons who didn't tow the Catholic line, all while claiming to be servants of goodness and truth.
Then you read a thread like this, and discover history eternally repeating itself.
But for the grace of God, some of you hate-filled do-gooders might actually have political power.
Dr. Paul will win handily against his opponent. It will be no contest.
Cut of your own nose to spite your face.. better yet, Why don't you just take a club and beat your self dead. We will dig a deeper hole to China and bury you THERE! Jerk.
Apparently, someone dosen't know this is old news...
I haven't heard what countries this neocon wants to invade however. Does anyone know what Arab countries he wants to occupy? thanks.
The idiot who accused me of shutting down dissent with insults needed to be insulted. We are not talking about "opinion" of weather you like the color red or blue, we are talking about concepts of liberty that go back for centuries. The Founding Fathers had a unique place in history to form a country with the highest ideals of individual freedom. All human beings prosper with liberty. This is not debatable it is a fact. We did not defeat the Soviet Union with force, the walls came tumbling down because of the failure of the system of government that enslaved the people. The more liberty we lose, the more failure to prosper the United States will experience as well. I have taken years to educate myself in philosophy, history and law, I do not suffer fools well, and If you disagree with premise that the U.S Constitution and the first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights is are as close to an ideal form of government as you can find then I have no interest in debating you because there is no merit to your argument.
The last poster statements about Dr. Paul and his campaigns funds are slanderous. Dr. Paul has never personally been accused of any wrongdoing, Do you really think that if there were a way to discredit Dr. Paul on campaign finance issues they would not have gone after him? The rabid press had to dig up 20 year old newsletters The only candidate that is not bought and sold by special interest is Dr. Ron Paul. His contributions come from the people, not from Big Pharma, the Military Industrial Complex and other liberty infringing corporate interest.
Reading this so called news story makes me feel dirty. Excuse me while I go take a shower.
What posters "Fuck You" and "Deeptoad" so eloquently said:
"I wish you a painful death, you fucking neocon bitch"
"Idiot bloggers poking fun at a seasoned Congressman who obeys the Constitution and serves the people.
It really shows that any moron with a keyboard can be a "journalist".
Get bent."
This is just another socialistic anti-American blogger with a numb mind.
99% of what congress does is illegal anyway...so Paul is correct to vote NO on it all.
The way people venerate Ron Paul as the sole savior or holder of sacred knowledge reminds me of one word-
-Cult-
2.an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3.the object of such devotion.
4.a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5.Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6.a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7.the members of such a religion or sect.
8.any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.
Hey, Meagan maybee Dennis Hof will hire you as a fluff girl, because this is shameful, and lacky in integrity so called artical, I would hope you were atleast skilled in someother way so you won't be on the Dole, I really thought Wonkete of what ever you call this thing was satire and not real, Just like Coultor she is a librel spewing hate speak, as a satire hook, but her voting for hillary just shows that to be true, oh Yeah, the next time you look in the mirror you will get a zit on your nose.

A really big painful zit
Megan, you "attention whore" you,... tagging "Ron Paul" to bring your blog out of oblivion.
Bask, you "attention whore",... courtesy of the one you cussed.
Looks like their are two anti-Paul neocon talking points memos out there. One says he's really the king of pork in disguise, thanks to all the earmarks he requests for his constituents, so we fiscal conservative types shouldn't vote for him, even though he votes against the spending.
The other says he votes against spending even for his own district, so his own constituents shouldn't vote for him, despite his stellar record of constituent service and the fact that they have previously elected him ten times.
It seems like another case of the Republican Party establishment shooting itself in the foot. First, they nominate a pro-war (and hence no hope of victory in November) presidential candidate who also happens to have limited appeal to their own base due to his advocacy for immigration amnesty, and now they are trying to remove a reliably conservative Congressman who is so popular in his home district, the Democrats don't even bother to run a candidate against him.
EVERYONE ON HERE SEEMS TO KNOW THAT THIS IS ONLY BEING DONE AS A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO GET HITS, SO WHY ARE YOU GUYS STILL COMING HERE TO READ SUCH CHILDISH GARBAGE.
QUIT COMING TO THIS SITE, PLEASE!!!
Yancey,
You're mistaken about Congressman Paul. He still puts earmarks for his district into spending bills, just like every other congressman.
The main difference is that he will then vote against the bill once its up for full vote (because the spending bill is full of earmarks).
Just because he's principled, doesn't mean he intentionally cruel to his constituents.
[This comment has been deleted for including unfortunate invective. Not to mention the death wish.]
hey guess what? you're stupid. i hope you don't reproduce.
Ron Paul is the only man worthy of being president. Only this week the "supreme court" refused to hear the case regarding the right to petition the government, as guaranteed in the constitution! Brown & Root are , at this minute, building prison camps in the united states to hold people who want to uphold the constitution. if 950 lies, an illegal war, doing away with habeas corpus, braking U.S. and international laws aren't enough to hang these people, what is? they deserve the same thing that sadam got, no less! somewhere around a million iraq civilians have been killed and they now have a blood feud with us. oh yea, they love us!? anyone who believes all that crap should have to go over there and drive a gas truck til its over. andrew Jackson would have hanged all these tyrants long ago!
Maybe you could back up your post with more than a rant from Wonkette? Why (in the name of all that is holy) is it that you support piling on pork? It's part of the problem in Washington -- it gives politicians an outlet to congratulate themselves for "helping" their constituency while they accept handouts from special interests.
Fuck Wonkette and it's (obvious) bias, AND shame on you for just regurgitating it.
when you can seriously comment about politics then waste our time.
Go screw yourself you neocommie
Go screw yourself you neocommie
when you can seriously comment about politics then waste our time.
Yes, I'm so sick of people who can't seriously comment having the presumption to waste time that ought to be wasted by the serious.
The Trans Texas Corridor will cause more damage to the world's food supply than anyone in office could ever wrap their small minds around
That must be one hell of a highway to be destroying most the arable land in our worldwide. I kind of suspect that world asphalt production isn't up to the task of producing that quantity of pavement. But then, I admit I haven't "done my research."
Look at all these angry responses. All we need to do now is arm all of these people and we might get our country back from fascist, elitist who lie to us to run everything or manipulate others for economic gain..................................................................
XMAS,
I think you have my comment mixed up with that of the hostess.
However, it would not surprise me to find that Paul does indeed get pork for his district, but votes against the spending bills anyway.
Paul does get Pork for his district, hundreds of millions of dollars worth each year. His claim to have voted against it is stupid because he is repsonible for it being in the bill in the first place. He always adds it to bills he knows will pass.
It is sad that John McCain is more of a fiscial Conservative than Ron Paul. At least McCain does not add one red cent to the budget in pork.
Jason M., b careful... prison camps are being built right now for talk like that! So, where do i sign up?
Get a clue lady.
You should know better than to dish Ron Paul. He is untouchable, honey.
Us Ron Paul supporters are armed with the truth, which obviously you have no clue about.
Pathetic!
The world has become too complex for simple answers. But, don't worry everyone. Dr. Ron Paul is from the Government and he is here to help.
Don't worry dave. We know about the detention centers they are building for dissenters and we will make sure that all the neocons are the first to be marched into them.
It is time we take back the country from the neocons. They control the banks, they control the elections, they have a plan to control the world. Our National rEVOLution movment will stop them.
Sooner will a camel pass through a needle’s eye than a great man be ‘discovered’ by an election.
The adherents of our rEVOLution must always remember this, whenever they may have misgivings lest the greatness of the sacrifices demanded of them may not be justified by the possibilities of success.
Oh miserable and uninformed Megan,
You need to check your facts before you publish your Ron Paul smear piece. Because the chance of Pegan beating Ron Paul is about as likely as John McCain never saying the words extreme Islamic fascist terrorists again.
Since you didn't do the homework, I will do it for you: According to Public Policy Polling, Ron Paul is at 63% and Peden is at 30%.
From Lew Rockwells website: "Peden is a deer on the hood of Ron's pickup truck. The same firm, btw, concluded that leftwing antiwar congressman Dennis Kucinich will also beat his establishment opponents.
From their lips to God's ear."
You should know better than to go after the good docter.
Damn!! At least whan I disagree w/ our hostess here I'm literate & semi-respectful. These Paultards pretty much condemn their candidate & themselves when they get near their keyboards. Not even Obamatons™© get like this.
Megan,
Thanks for publishing this thread. It works like flypaper for all the harried, buzzing little Paulbearers. And it does provide relief to the rest of us on the internet who have to put up with them periodically.
First things...Megan, please accept my apologies for the rather crude level of criticism that has been tossed your way. While I do not care for what you say about Dr. Paul (nor for that matter what you choose to cut-n-paste from other sites), I do not think there is any place for ad hominem attacks such as seen here.
That being said, please let your friend, Wonkette, know the joke's on her. Whether Paul loses once, twice, or a hundred times, it will not make us view him as a "loser in the eyes of his beloved constituents." He is a gentlemen and a statesmen. Him losing says far more about the sorry state of the GOP than it does about Rep. Ron Paul. Our Congress needs far more of him and far fewer 'other representatives focus(ing) on piling up the pork'...and less Wonkette for that matter.
Peace be with you.
Oh, and Abraxas:
Whatever money that may flow back to the 14th District of Texas pales in comparison to the biggest, most expensive, most misguided, corrupt, welfare project in American history: the invasion/distruction/liberation/occupation/reconstruction of Iraq.
And of course, Sen. McLame has his hands proudly all over that one. To claim McCain is anywhere near as careful with the taxpayers money as Dr. Paul is ridiculous to point of absurdity.
Don't believe me? Check with the National Taxpayers Union: http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=141
Peace be with you.
Paul08,
Its good to know i'm not alone. I'm a viet-nam era vet and have witnessed these lying tyrants for many years. they have become bolder in their actions! i consider all our " representatives" as enemies.. they have allowed these tyrants to become stronger, passing laws that go against all reason, no matter what the people want. they are not working for our interests... will never police themselves, we tried that on term limits, they said no, i don't think so, and gave themselves $4000 raise. the supreme court are guilty too, refusing to hear " right to petition" case, attorney general ignoring this administrations trampling of the constitution... on and on... justice resides in our hands, not in these corp. tyrants.... to arms!
WONKETTE IS ALSO A NEO-CON WHORE. (Chris Peden is a bloated, neo-con puppet)
1. RP never voted himself a pay raise. (10 term congressmen)
2. Does not take part in the lucrative congressional pension plan that would have made him worth multi millions coupled with his military service.
3. RP has never voted a tax increase or voted to increase the power to the executive branch.
4. RP voted no to the Iraq war.
5. RP has never voted to fund the Iraq war.
6. RP wins has won his congressional district 10 CONSECUTIVE times (even though Delay split it up to take it!)...Spending less money, by a wider vote each time. What does this say in this left leaning district?
7. RP had a Democrat jump ship and join Neocons to unseat him in 06.
This Dem turned NEO spent a million dollars on his campaign and STILL lost with GWB, Rove, Delay and Harris firmly by his side through the whole campaign!. They even called in Newt Gingrich at the last minute, and they STILL lost!
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Ron had his secret power hitter, NOLAN RYAN (Astros Icon!) speak at some events and Ron WON by a wider margin then EVER before, forever placing the neocons in the corner here in TX 14!$!
8. The 2 parties here can not even figure out why RP wins every time! It is so funny to watch them get spanked every election. Paul has made politics interesting and has taught us NEVER to trust Government. He says we shouldnt even be ASKED to do so! Since when is it UNAMERICAN to distrust our awkward/corrupt government?
The local paper, every election, goes against the people and then they have to retract their vile attempt to discredit Dr. Paul because of their waining subscriptions. Galveston Daily News, Texas oldest newspaper, is owned by a neocon outfit in Tennessee.
Lesson:
Ron Paul has been keeping neo-conservatives out of our district for 20 years!
He knows how to beat them, and he will use their own vile platforms and immoral values to accomplish this. Watch them go against their promises while Paul stands by his.
Watch them beat each other up, while having nothing they can say to Paul because he is soooo clean.
He takes NO OIL money. That says alot in this BIG OIL district.
Its not over till the people sing!
Go Ron Paul.
We love you in Galveston and if you dont win Ronnie, we will always have a place for you right here, as long as you want it!
BTW: Ron Paul is NO RACIST.
The Libertarians would NEVER put up with this and have endorsed him for years.
So has the Texas Chapter leader of the NAACP!
I see now why she mentioned him above. Still outside of his district no one needs to care much whether this wacky old dude wins or loses. For the record I think he'll probably win. He's an incumbent Congressman and he's not exactly Wayne Gilchrest. Plus I think he's popular there and is giving their district national attention.
As long as he never has any position of real power in the House, I'm fine with him being a Representative. We have a variety of unusual people in the House and maybe one or two of their ideas will turn out good.
Reading the thread through though I have to say the members of the "Church of 'L' Ron-Paulogy" here is going way over the line. You're acting like Radical Muslims who feel Muhammad was insulted. Threatening her or calling her a b--- or a wh--- does your movement no credit.
And one more thing I would like now to state on this day memorable perhaps not only for us Americans. I have often been a prophet in my life and was generally laughed at. During my struggle for power, the Neocons primarily received with laughter my prophecies that I would someday assume the leadership of the country and thereby of the entire nation and then, among many other things, achieve a solution of the Neocon problem. I suppose that meanwhile the laughter of Neocons in this country that resounded then is probably already choking in their throats.
Today I want to be a prophet again. If international finance Neocons within the NAU and abroad should succeed once more in plunging the peoples into a world war, then the consequence will be not the Liberalization of the world and therewith a victory of Neocons, but on the contrary, the destruction of the Neocons in this country.
-Ron Paul
Thomas R,
Ron Paul is unlikely to be given a position of power regardless of the quality of his ideas because he isn't an "insider".
He doesn't vote with his party (except on procedural matters) and is a vocal critic of the Bush administration's policies. Most of his donations come from outside the party machinery (99% are individual donations) and he doesn't play the political game.
Wonkette is a little wanker or a Wankette.
biased c-nt
Wonkette - did her uterus fall out yet?
I am quite sure that in Gandhi's time, his opposition made up all kinds of names for him and manufactured lies about him. But that did not deter him, slow him down or even make him flinch. He powered on, month after month, year after year, decade after decade, until what was once thought to be the impossible, that is, the withdrawal of imperialist British rule from India, ultimately became the inevitable. Just like Ron Paul is doing, fighting to remove the cleverly-disguised leviathan of tyranny from this country.
Wow, congrats. on the low point of your career. Making jokes about a man that actually seems to try to speak the truth. Whether Paul wins or looses isn't the issue anymore. His mission was a success. He planted the seed, it's up to us (the Paultards) to see this thing through and get our country back on track. Perhaps then you'll have something worthwhile to write about. As for now, I'd stick to writing on toilet paper before you wipe your ass.
I think you're correct Pablo. He is uncompromising and idealistic. He doesn't compromise even when doing so could get him most of what he wants. He rarely worries that his ideals can actually be accomplished. He's sort of like the late Yasser Arafat. This makes him a hero to some, but also a disaster and politically ineffectual.
That's not what you meant, but the end result is basically the same. If you think we're going toundo the Sixteenth Amendment, return to the Gold Standard, reverse Lawrence vs Texas, withdraw from the UN, return all troops from South Korea, or end aid to Israel you're not living in the real world anymore.
As a Atlantic subscriber in Belgium, I very much enjoy the magazine's style and its way of looking at many sides of an argument, even when I disagree with an article's conclusion.
By contrast, this post by Ms McArdle doesn't come close to the Atlantic's high standards. The Atlantic should worry about cheapening its image in this manner.
I understand the commercial thinking behind it: draw people who google RP to the web site and put a banner for discounted subscipritons at the top of the page.
But I think this calculation is flawed: you stand to lose much more in damaging your usually high standards this way than you will ever gain in new subscribers.
Wonkette is a fucking cunt.
You refer to his supporters as Paul"tards" and then you get all indignant when they tell you to go fuc* yourself???
Hold on a sec... wasn't this a big deal in the Tim Russert interview? That Ron Paul DOES place earmarks into bills for his consitutents even though he votes against the bill in the end.
Ron Paul is the perfect Rep for one's district, especially if you're for freedom. You put him in power to shrink the size of the government and institute pro-liberty legislation. BUT, so long as the rest of congress insists on stealing from its citizens for the "public good", at least he'll put your requests in the bill so you get some of your money back. It's not a perfect system, but it's by no means "ignoring" one's constituents.
wonkette is a fool..how much more blatent can u be? everywhere u see the mainstream media mockin ron paul an giving osama an the rest huge respect. u r pathetic. ur lil blog is so ridiculous. ron paul is the only real candidate in this election. why dont u crawl back into ur neocon bunker an lick all the neocons asses.
I am a property owner in the 14th district. I will vote for and support RON PAUL. We don't have to settle for what we have become we have not only history, and the CONSTITUTION on our side but now we have an ever increasing number of politicians and everyday citizens subscribing to the principles of LIBERTY. I for one am a war veteran and it saddens me greatly that I had to wait so long to vote for a Presidential Nominee that wanted to stop the DOMESTIC ENEMIES of the CONSTITUTION. I don't want a hybrid country of big government colluding with corporate interest while pandering to special interest groups. We fought the fascists in World War 2 and the Communist through the Cold War. Now it seems these two forces are colluding in an insiduous attempt to fleece the freedom loving people of America.
NO! I don't want Fascisim.
No! I don't want Socialism.
GO RON PAUL!!!!
This article caused me to revisit Pauls Campaign store. ON the congressional site he even has products for a dollar. Won't you join me in giving more to Dr. Paul? He gives so much for us and liberty.

Now I see why I've never heard of this Megan McGirdle. What a wanker.
Wow, just look at all the comments by the Ron Paul supporters. Some of them wishing death upon another human being because of their opinions.
You guys are something else. There is a reason why the rest of us think you guys are lunatics because of stuff like this. You need to step back and learn some perspective.
Never in my life have I seen such blind support for a candidate as I have seen by Ron Paul's cult. I thought no one could beat the few that still support George W. Bush, but boy was I wrong.
@ Political Scientist - 101
Your writing is not compelling. Your just another America love it or leave it attention whore. Right?
First: To all of my dear supporters, I thank you for your zeal. You will truly win back the country with such vigor!
However, I must tell you that it is misguided. I ask you, which is more likely to cause our revolution: posting a comment here lambasting a want-to-be blogger, or out in the real world to the voters who matter? It is quite obvious from the posting pattern here that we are not going to change her mind. It is a lost cause.
Also, I implore you to avoid death threats. As a poster above mentioned, we should model ourselves after Gandhi or Martin Luther King. Threatening anyone in our way will feed fuel to those who seek to slander and libel me. I love and appreciate all of my supporters and I do not want to limit you and your potential in any way, but in this particular point I must ask you for restrainant.
Thank you, and remember: there is hope for America. Vote for me in 2008.
Thank you all again,
Dr. Ron Paul
but you gotta wonder why clowns like the Wonkette are still so eager to make Ron Paul look bad, even though they believe he has no hope of winning.
I think they're still smarting from the fact that Ron Paul consistently must educate them during the debates and point out how UN-conservative they truly are.
Makes 'em realize they're just political hacks without principles. Whores, in other words.
I would agree with Dr. Paul's comment above that the threats and names are unneccessary, however, she called him a whore, goofy hobbit and a loser amoung many other names. Is this really journalism? Is this really anything but slander? what a mistake clicking on this link. I'll never read anything from this website again. I think you, writer, are enjoying the MANY hits your site has garnered by writing an article with Ron Paul's name in it. You do this because you know the support he has and it makes you look good. You should be ashamed of writing such garbage and putting your name on it says alot about you. Right back at ya!
First off, I'm as big of a Paul supporter as any sane citizen. Unfortunately, I live in Ohio though, so my primary vote and the votes of the people I've spoken with - and there are a lot of them - will be nearly irrelevant at this point. That will not stop us from supporting Ron Paul all the way, as far as we can take him.
With that said, folks, I hate to tell you all this, but Wonkette is a SATIRE site/blog. It's a place for idiots to play flame war games, let off steam, and just be generally obnoxious. That any aspiring journalist would actually REFERENCE the Wonktards for anything is farking hilarious by itself, but to see people get all bent out of shape about it is, well, stoopid funny! I recommend we all avoid Wonkette if we can't take being offended by humor and bad taste. It makes about as much sense trying to argue/preach/ridicule or attempt normal conversation with these people as it does to expect same from a chimpanzee.
When you do your Google search to find the latest news on Dr. Paul, take a look at the information about where the link is going to take you; it helps put crap into perspective. And, only try to join or post at Wonkette if your aim is to practice your flaming skills. If you try to defend any politician, and particularly Ron Paul in any serious manner at Wonkette, you are wasting valuable time and energy that would be better spent talking to more friends and neighbors about the messages of freedom and adherence to the rule of law.
Study the CFR and other socialist new-world-order group plans; face the real enemy armed with knowledge of who they really are.
Hey Meaghan,
Have a look at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/whore
The definition of a whore is "a person considered as having comprimised principles for personal gain".
-Ron Paul GIVES BACK to the treasury unused funds from his office EVERY YEAR.
-He voted AGAINST every congressional pay raise.
Maybe you can enlighten us with a single example of an instance where he has EVER flip flopped or compromised his principles. But you are just a two-bit "whore journalist" using their own bias to your personal gain and NEVER reporting FACTS. Good job comrade McArdle!
Have you ever heard of the National Debt? I'd LOVE to see your take on that.
If anyone is a "whore" it is YOU for lying to us all in order to achieve personal gain.
Given the fact that you have illustrated to us all that you have the IQ of a piss clam, and base not a single line of your writing on fact; I write your "journalism" off as the typical "ITAR-TASS" sensationalist bias that led to the demise of the USSR.
So go smoke another turd (and you can then tell us you don't inhale) and author some other mindless emmotional piece void of any valid rhetoric or logic. I hear you could be editor in chief of Today's Pravda pushing the party line. I'll bet you think the sun still circles the earth, and it does so because it really is circling the USA.
How does it feel to be legitimately "OWNED".
Wonkette's a good ringer for this one.
Ron Paul has always been LIBERTARIAN; however, in our 'non-democracy' you have to be either an ass or an elephant to get on a ticket. He has a plan for the mess the current adminstrations (right, plural) have pushed the American people into either supporting or being hung out to dry for NOT supporting.
This is government controlled journalism at its' finest. I don't agree with everything Ron Paul has as his platform but I believe he's our best choice at attempting to right some wrongs and get this country out of the clutches of Big Oil and the MIC (military industrial complex, something Eisenhower warned us about, Wonkette). Damn straight someone is gunning for Ron Paul. He's hardly a 'blame America first' politico; he places the blame squarely on the shoulders of the people who maneuvered America into the precarious state we're now in and he has the cahones to tell the truth about the situation created by the last 2 adminstrations.
And frankly, I'm sad to see such tactics as McArdle's used at The Atlantic.
And I applaud Mike K's comments.
?? WTH?? Yes your informal fallacy!! I can't stand behind principal, only promote "conditioning" of ideology. I can see through you.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Your stupid...talk much?
Ron Paul has allowed more wasted money than ANY member of congress from either party.
Everytime he had the chance to negotiate out a few billion dollars from the budget but instead chose to vote “no” on principal then he, the mighty postulator Ron Paul, wasted BILLIONS to try to advertise his principals.
He is elected to do a job and he has refused to do it. I am embarassed that it took so long to see through this hypocritical “wild shrimp” minded phony.
He could have done the hard work of negotiating better budgets, better trade deals, better laws and the such. However he has chosen instead to lambast the Republicans at every turn to prove how he is the most “constitutional” representative there.
Too bad.
