I just saw Clay Aiken shilling for some QVC special he's hosting. He already looks like an aging has-been.

Who Clay Aiken?

I always thought he looked like Martin Short.

A savvy person can milk hasbeenism into a pretty good gig. Combined with a sense of humour, it's a pretty good life. A great, now largely unheard of book is "Red Lobster, Blue Lagoon" by Joe Queenan, which is a hilarious take on American Pop Culture. One of the subtexts is the categories of has-beens, from the Satanic John Tesh, to Queenan's mostly friendly take on Barry Manilow. In any case, I'm sure the book can be found used for next to nuthin', and it's a great couple hours of entertainment.

I thought you had to be somebody before being a has-been.

Big QVC fan? If it's a cooking demonstration I'll check it out. Anything else, forget it.

Damn! Hubbard beat me to it!

Ageism and sexism in one sentence.

Kudos to The Atlantic on the quality of its employees!

I always enjoy people tossing up against criticisms against others, who don't even hear those criticisms.

All these people at the bottom clamoring to tear down the ones at the top.

There's an old French saying which sums this up quite well:
La bave du crapaud n'atteint pas la blanche colombe.

He's less a has-been than a never-was.

He's not a has-been so much as a never-was.

This really is a mean spirited blog post (especially considering that I read in an interview that Clay loves to read economic blogs...ok I made that up).

You really want to open the door on that?

I am not a Clay Aiken "fan", but I like that when I saw his interview about his role in the later run of "spamalot", he seemed both delighted that people like to come see him and hear his music, and humbly aware of his small place on the great St. Louis Arch of fame.
