Pretty funny:
This did not, however, stop me from lusting after the MacBook Air I saw yesterday.

Ha!
Considering I take my MacBook Air so many more places than my old laptop, I'm pretty sure I've make up for the price in increased work / productivity. So you should totally get one. Don't listen to the haters... I love it more than any tech purchase I've made. It hurt to buy it, but the pain goes away quickly!
It hurt to buy it, but the pain goes away quickly! Keep in mind the propritress earns a journalist's salary. In her case the pain might not go away so quickly, especially if she wants the SSD storage option.
I splurged on one a few weeks ago -- and I love it. You don't need CD drive, especially in the age of networks and downloadable software (in fact, I was able to install Office and iWork using the Remote Disc feature without a hitch). The ad misses the point: the Air is a machine about reducing complexity. You don't need to lug around a bunch of extra stuff. Even the external drive isn't a necessity. One USB port, one graphics port (and amazingly Apple even includes both a VGA and a DVI adapter!) and wireless covers 99% of what you need. The Air is a bit on the expensive side, but the build quality is great even by Apple standards. An extra USB port would be nice, but it really isn't essential, and for road warriors, the Air's thinness and weight is ideal.

I don't know Megan, there's no software for the Mac. I mean, if I were to switch, what would I do about my 4 most used pieces of software - antivirus software; antispyware software; disk defragger; and registry rebuilder.
