I just interviewed Microsoft about their new HDTV-over-IP product, about which I hope to blog today or Monday. The most interesting part was the potential for features and customization. Watching Pope Benedict speak at the UN right now, I hope the first one they invent is the ability to turn off the TV news not-very-simultaneous translation of speeches in languages you understand, which is, at least for dimwits like me, so distracting that I can't follow the damn thing at all.
Failing that, I suppose I'll at least be able to tune into a foreign news channel. Presuming they cover things like religious figures speaking at the UN.

"I hope the first one they invent is the ability to turn off the TV news not-very-simultaneous translation of speeches in languages you understand..."--MM
that would be cool, also they should deliver multiple video feeds so that the Viewer could play 'Producer' at home.
and, maybe deliver Radio audio to match up with TV video, like for baseball game coverage..
Is that supposed to read news' ? I'm not one to be picky about grammar on blogs, but it's hard to make sense of that sentence in its current form...
The worst is on Iron Chef America, where they always do the semi-simultaneous translation over Morimoto even though he's speaking English!
Have you talked to AT&T about their already deployed HDTV-over-IP product (Uverse)?
Actually, that's powered by Microsoft's product.
I think very soon you be able to get the live feed from the Vatican's broadcast, and do the same for every institution involved.
Disintermediation is coming very quickly and “IPTV” or “ATT Universe” or whatever it’s called is a big step in that direction.
