Amusing moment of the evening

06 May 2008 09:27 pm

Barack Obama says "McCain is using the same tactics that George Bush used to get elected." Someone in the back of the audience shouts "Hillary too!" Campaign plant or freelancer? We report, you decide.

I think that was Sully. Only 4.5 hours from DC to Raleigh by car.

Barack Obama says "McCain is using the same tactics that George Bush used to get elected."

So Obama’s predicting that he’s going to lose as well? Good to know.

George Bush lost the election.

But you did not report enough for us to decide!
:P

George Bush lost the election.

One has to give you people credit for stamina, if nothing else. "Blah blah blah blah butterfly ballot blah blah selected not elected blah blah blah supreme court . . . " Lesser folk would get tired after a few years, maybe get a hobby or something, but not you. Maybe Budweiser will make one of those "Real American Heroes" commercials about you.

At any rate, from the first moment that the 2000 election devolved into an argument over what constituted a valid vote on a ballot, it was inevitable that the courts would decide the election. No matter who won, he would always bear the taint of "selected not elected".

The lesson we should have taken away from that fiasco is that our democratic process, imperfect though it may be, is the best one we've got, and throwing rocks at it when you lose is good for nobody. Instead, the lesson we got was that it's never too late to fight, nay, not even 7 1/2 years after the election is over. And while I look forward to debating over the Florida and Michigan delegates in 2016, I'm not sure that as a nation we're better off for it.

that dude wasn't a campaign plant. He was interrupting Obama's speech all night and provided an annoying distraction to an otherwise great address.
