Dan Drezner makes full professor

09 May 2008 01:50 pm

And spills the secrets of that arcane priesthood. If only we had tenure, I'd spill the awesome secrets of professional bloggerdom, but they can still kick me out of the club. And I'd hate to miss tonight's champagne pool party.

"Dan Drezner makes full professor"

Did he assemble the parts from academic graveyards or just start with a full corpse and insert a suitably pompous brain?

Wow he must be really dissatisfied and bitter about his profession!

"I'd hate to miss tonight's champagne pool party."

I've been to a couple of those. Don't drink the champagne after people have been swimming in it for a few hours. Disgusting.

In his post, he says "There's no rank beyond full professor, however."

What, they don't have chairs in his area? I won't be done until I hold a chaired professorship, and even then, there are better chairs elsewhere....

Um, okay . . .two posts about her other appearances (one a variation on yet another previous TV Guide like post letting us know where to catch her) and now this WHO OUTSIDE OF THE GUY'S FAMILY CARES? post on Dan Drezner's career.

The quickie one about the car accident in the Mideast (her curt verdict: it was bad) the other day was beyond weird. Alas, now I think I know what's going on.

It seems McAardle is having trouble, well, blogging. Coming up with fresh material, etc. Meeting her professional responsibilities.

She might thus really want to start thinking about stockpiling stuff (posts and links with no expiration date) to dish out judiciously over the days. Or maybe take more reader's questions. Something. Anything.

I mean I coast a lot in my work and I know a lot of people who constantly network, but, geesh, I stand in awe of her on both counts.

Talk about coasting!

Talk about networking! ("Congrats on your getting tenure, Dan! I'll link!")

Everything but blogging.

That's a bit tricky. To get those you may have to be demoted to department head first.

Ah, the rigors and sacrifices of academia. Here the rest of us just go out and BUY a chair when the need arises.

There are....., perhaps McArdle is corruptible?

It might be worth seeing whether a large cash donations would help focus her attentions on issues you find more blogworthy....
