Joe Klein's conscience

I thought as a Libertarian, you'd be worried about the government being able to track every movement you make.

misplaced trust co.

Good thing you "lost" the old phone. Was looking forward to a month of cold turkey cellphone withdrawal blogging.

Nice, but not enough to upgrade - 32Gigs and I would have been sold (even for $400).

Looks pretty good to me, though I won't buy one-- I have an old phone that I can throw around and not worry about, and I do everything (address book, day planner, MP3 player, eBook reader, Web browser, VOIP) else gadget-y on my (slightly modified) Nintendo DS.

Ooh, it's now caught up to my Samsung Blackjack II. It's had GPS and 3G for almost a year and only cost $0.01

JoeKlein's Conscience,

She makes an exception seeing how this phone is made at a non-union shop. What's your excuse?

Once again I think I'll be saved by the headed-back-to-Europe-for-the-academic-year thing...because no one has been able to tell me what I would do with my AT&T contract while I'm in Germany and Italy, or how long a service I'd be liable for there. Maybe by July they'll have figured that out!

(oh - when I left for the spring semester this year the best ATT would do is switch me to the lowest possible contract - no 90 day holiday or anything that Time Warner was willing to do for my cable/internet plan!)

Oh!!!! I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Anyone else in the DC area want to meet up for a geek tailgate at one of the local Apple stores? I'll bring s'mores!

Yeah, what's the point? Part of the appeal of the iPhone is supposed to be that you don't have to carry both your cell phone and your iPod around with you, making two big bulges in your pockets or stretching out a purse. A lot of Apple fans tend to have huge music collections (especially downloaded music), so what's the point? Can they really not stuff 40-80 gigs on one of those yet?

40-80GB at any reasonable price still requires a mechanical hard disk with the attendant power consumption and reduced shock tolerance, plus space to fit it. This device is flash-based, and my educated guess is that Apple simply ran out of board space in their quest to make it thin. The touch-sensitive LCD will already be consuming almost half of the device's depth, and at least a third of the remainder is filled with battery.

Why buy into the expensive, less efficient minor puddle, when you can have the inexpensive, more efficient mainstream?

This is tagged is an "economics" blog, isn't it?

I think the $199 price point is excellent, and I would imagine they will get around to models that can hold more as well. At this price more of the general population will start snapping them up, and especially as we move toward Christmas.

Because Alinskyism is suprisingly effective when implemented by a $163 billion corporation?

Finn:

$199 is great, but it's now actually more expensive overall than before. Did Steve mention that?
