I have, at this moment, 155 outstanding friend requests. It's not you, it's me. I use facebook to conduct my private life, and so I restrict membership to those who are nominally a part of it. If I haven't met you, I won't friend you, not because I don't love you, but because thanks to three different schools I already have 200 facebook friends and I can't keep track of any more.

I am hurt, I am devistated! What is a periodic facebook?
Perhaps I should defriend you so you'll have room for one of your REAL friends...?
Since there doesn't seem to be any sort of well-defined interval between these posts, you might do well to refer to them as "episodic Facebook reminders" instead. Just a thought from your friendly local militant grammarian.
I am now at the apex of my Facebook experience, with 5 friends.
20% are related to me, 20% represent friends from 3rd-8th grade that "found me", 20% represents a former coworker who I don't really like all that much and will delete when a distracting event like an earthquake hits, 20% represent a former coworker/friend who I do like from my life back East, and 20% represents a former coworker who I really want to know better (after she moves on from her boyfriend), and who friended me out of the blue.
Already the usage of "applications"--by two of the people that require you to install the software to your profile page to respond --are getting on my nerves.
Finn:
I say hang with luddites like me who don't put in the stupid apps and for a long while had no profile picture. Stay strong brother!
Also, Facebook is an excellent way to stay in touch with others who you'd like to know better as soon as they move on from their current beau. In other settings, I believe this is termed 'stalking' or something similarly slanderous.
Just a thought: get yourself a Myspace account and make everyone your friend. Use that to spread McArdlism and Facebook for your personal life.
