I believe I've mentioned that you ought to be reading the blog of my lefty arch-nemesis, Matt Steinglass. If not, well, consider it mentioned. Anyway, he's got a good post up today about piecework rates. I agree with him completely--journalists are most productive on a combination of salary and piecework. Or, in the case of bloggers, when we effectively have our own P&L.

"a good post up today about piecework rates"
By "good" you clearly mean "anecdotal, but relevant, learning-it-as-you-go-along way."
Meanwhile, Steinglass, while giving himself props for figuring this stuff out in the real world, will rail against corporate managers, whose whole training, experience, and value is about getting more out of people, ideally for less, but always having to compete for their talents. He will continue insulting "business types" as exploiters of the workers.
How come Steinglass gets to be your lefty archnemesis instead of Kathy G.? Seems to me her claims to archnemosity are at least as good.
Because Matt Steinglass is brilliant and awesome.
