So as not to keep you in suspense . . .

The particular graduate student under discussion was not any of the graduate students that have so far been suggested to me by avid readers, and I'm certainly hoping does not read this blog. Further deponent sayeth not. However, if you think you recognize a graduate student near and dear to your heart in this description, you should probably email them about it, not me.

OK, I give up. What are you talking about? Is this some sort of "Beltway Insider" quiz?

Steve Johnson

Sounded like a dead on description of Brad DeLong.

Basically all I know about his blog is that he doesn't delete comments unless he is losing an argument.

He's not a grad student anymore though.

However, if you think you recognize a graduate student near and dear to your heart in this description, you should probably email them about it, not me.

taking this post at face value, it actually speaks to your readers' low opinion of you that they would jump to that conclusion -- that the post in question is a passive aggressive swipe at someone with whom you have been arguing publicly, and as such fits into a pattern that they recognize from you.

"However, if you think you recognize a graduate student near and dear to your heart in this description, you should probably email them about it, not me."

Megan, I spent five years in graduate school and the only person who I recognized in that little passive-aggressive tirade is you. If I had the time and / or inclination, I'd wade through your archives and cut out examples of your own arrogance, know-it-allism and obliviousness that line up pretty squarely with the strawman you constructed in that post.

But I'm not going to, because a) I'm lazy, and b) you either already know I'm right, or you wouldn't be convinced by the evidence if it were presented to you.

It's a shame your friends don't conduct an intervention for you.
