A Politico reporter saw Novak in the front of a police car with a citation in his hand; a WJLA-TV crew and reporter saw Novak as well. The pedestrian was hospitalized but there were no details about the person's condition. Novak was later released and left the scene."I didn't know I hit him," Novak told Politico. Novak said he was a block away when a bicyclist stopped him and said, 'You hit someone.' He was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
The best part is that commenters are coming into the DCist thread and saying that they, too, have been hit by the Novakmobile.

Stranegely, he always seems to hit them from the right.
I have heard (started) a rumor that the pedestrian was Joe Wilson.

This scene from Pulp Fiction just popped into my head.
Isn't this called "hit and run" or more technically, "leaving the scene of an accident?" It isn't surprising he claims not to have seen the victim; it is quite common for criminals to deny culpability.
Novak is actually my second favorite political columnist. It's a 50 way tie for first.
If the driver had been a minority, you KNOW he would have received more than a citation and a fine.

It would be nice to see the vicious old bastard doing a month or two in jail, but Dumbya would probably pardon him in return for services rendered.

...leaving him just 140 short of the all time second-term record!

I'd like to see outgoing presidents pardoning THOUSANDS of people, especially victims of the Totally Insane War On Drugs. I just would rather not see them pardoning people who were guilty of crimes committed by their own administrations - which seems to be the established Republican practice now.
Dumbya has been notoriously cheap with pardons, because he doesn't have a decent bone in his entire worthless body, and I expect he'll continue his tradition. I hope there's a paperwork glitch and he pardons Cheney for "crimes against humanity," though. Put that in your obit, Dicky.
When I first moved to this city about 8 years ago, one of my first "DC experiences" involved watching Novak nearly kill 5 students at George Washington University.
There is a major pedestrian crosswalk in front of the Metro station at 23rd & I St, which is usually teeming with people around 5:00pm. As the light turned red and pedestrians started crossing, we noticed a car barreling down 23rd street. The car blew through the red light and right through the crosswalk. I saw 3 students literally jump out of the way to avoid being mowed down.
As the car passed through the intersection, the driver laid on his horn, screamed "assholes" (a la Kevin Kline's character in "A Fish Called Wanda") and proceeded to give us all the bird.
The driver was none other than Mr. Novak. I wouldn't have believed the story had I not seen it with my own eyes.
The guy is a serious asshole and a serious danger. Normally I'm not a fan of lawsuits, but I hope the pedestrian he struck sues the living bejesus out of him.
Better yet, I hope he does this to somebody with a really bad temper who follows him to the next stop light, rips him out of his car and beats him to a pulp. Let that fat old bastard spend the rest of his evil little life in constant pain and agony. He deserves it.
It's 9:30am EDT and no posts from Megan! Has Novak struck again?
"The driver was none other than Mr. Novak. I wouldn't have believed the story had I not seen it with my own eyes."
I call you on this. Is there any evidence? A citation? A police report? We're supposed to believe that you saw a man drive through a light, at speed, and that you positively identified him as Novak on the strength of a glimpse that didn't amount to ten seconds? I don't believe it.
Ingvy,
Damn. I must be a bleeding heart. The red mist descends upon me frequently but it passes quickly. I can't think of anyone who I would want to suffer a life of constant pain and agony. I can think of quite a few people who I would want to blot out of existence though.
Fine, don't believe me. I'm going to assume you don't know the area, the intersection, nor the big traffic circle located immediately after the light (the one he ran) which forces a driver to come to nearly a complete stop to enter. If you knew the traffic logistics of the area in question, you'd see just how easy it is to ID somebody. As any pedestrian in DC knows; if you filed a police report every time some douche nearly runs you over, that's pretty much all you'd spend your days doing. Besides, if someone called the police; do you really think they're going to pursue it? The ones in this city who aren't total lazy-asses have better things to do with their time. In case you haven't noticed; we have a lot of serious crime here - and that's not counting the activities of the Federal Government.

And this is why you're probably a better (and more relaxed) person than I am.
Ingvy,
It's a west coast thing.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord
and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.

100 milliseconds is more than enough time to identify someone you can recognize.

Not everyone can see when someone is splayed across their windshield. Perhaps that out to be part of the eye exam you get for driving tests.
"Look through the viewer at the image of the windshield - pedestrian or no pedestrian?"
"Look through the viewer at the image of the windshield - pedestrian or no pedestrian?"
Actually, the article doesn't say much about what happened. Could be he clipped someone with the side mirror and spun him/her around sideways while looking the other direction to check for traffic.
Wouldn't excuse him for not looking both ways at the crosswalk, but the sequence of events is at least plausible.
From a different article at:

'As he traveled east on K Street, crossing 18th, Bono said "a black Corvette convertible with top closed plows into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed into the windshield.” '
