Senior moments

26 Sep 2008 09:37 pm

Okay, Barack Obama forgetting John McCain's name did not make him look particularly clever--one ought to be able to remember the name of the fellow one's been campaigning against for month.  Who's having senior moments again?

Nor is McCain coming off as particularly bright when he repeats his line about how he "wasn't elected Miss Congeniality" in the senate approximately seventy four times.  And no one should ever, ever refer to themselves as a maverick unless they are currently James Garner.

Megan,
I think he was referring to Jim Lehrer when he said,"Jim", then turned to John McCain and said ,"John..."

I think he said Tom, not Jim or John...

Referring to the Miss Congeniality, every time he says it, it just reminds me about Palin being in a beauty pagaent. Didn't she claim to win Miss Congeniality when she actually didn't or something?

"And no one should ever, ever refer to themselves as a maverick unless they are currently James Garner."

Amen!

Is it ironic that "maverick" has become a brand?

He said "Tom" because he was leading up to a comment about working with Tom Coburn. Big deal.

Old mavericks end up in the glue factory. McCain's ready for it now.

Hey, what about Jack Kelly?

I thought that was odd too. I almost felt he was trying to distance himself from Palin on the "Miss Congeniality" remark. Which might be interesting if it means Palin can now say what she thinks, no matter if it's different than McCain or even a bit crazy. That might be kind of fun. (If she thinks global warming is *"code for UN commissars telling Americans what the temperature's going to be in our outdoors. I say let the world warm up. We'll grow oranges in Alaska!" I want to know. Or if it's something much saner than that as well)

*This quote is from Dale Gribble on "King of the Hill." I hope I don't get sued.

Irreverent Comment

Megan,

Haven't you just said that McCain's struggle to pronounce the name of Ahmadinejad should not be used for cheap shots at McCain?

"And no one should ever, ever refer to themselves as a maverick unless they are currently James Garner."

....how about professional basketball players in Dallas?

What Senator Obama doesn't understand is that Jack Kelly, Roger Moore, and Robert Colbert all played Mavericks on the tv show and Mel Gibson played one on the big screen.

Nylund, my theory is that McCain is hoping to get someone to attack Palin with that line so he can toss out a prepared defense. Then we get the topic off "Palin doesn't seem to know what she's talking about on the rare occasions she is permitted to do so" and onto "the Obama campaign shamefully attacked poor, poor Governor Palin" again.

If Obama or Biden said anything about Miss Congeniality the McCain people would be in a tizzy of joyously offended press releases, just as they were over the word "lipstick."
