The John McCain video

04 Sep 2008 10:10 pm

. . . is much better than the one about either Sarah Palin or Cindy McCain.  And yet . . . do we need the tribute videos?  There's something of the whiff of creepy totalitarian propaganda films about them.

More necessary than ever. A modern audience couldn't sit through the Gettysburg address. They need fades, dissolves, and sound bites

But without the video, we wouldn't have known that McCain was a P.O.W. After all, as Cindy pointed out to us, John hates to bring it up.

Really?? OK, I didn't see the Palin or Cindy vids, but...really??! 5 minutes I'll never, ever, ever get back.

Full disclosure - I am an Obama supporter - but watching the video made me think of war and more war. It makes me think he will invade Iran and Pakistan. But I'm not the target audience...maybe it would appeal more to men?

Now we have blue!! Are they trying to set Palin up for 2012?

The only person talking about invading Pakistan is Obama.

When I see McCain washed out once again in front of a background his staff once again obviously signed off on, I can't help but think, "this is what happens to a party without gay people."

This is happens to a party without any openly gay people.

What was Crist\'s background like?

Who was doing the narration? Sounded like Sam Elliot.

It was neat to see hundreds of Shriners in the audience, but I wish they would have brought their little cars with them.

I had NO idea McCain was a POW. Thankfully his speech cleared that up for me.

Great post, thanks

I disagree. I found these videos touching. Tonight I remembered what it was to be proud to be an American--and to have old fashioned values like loyalty and honor. Don't get me wrong. I'm still undecided, but I realized that McCain is an honorable man with a strong character and good values. After all, a president is just a man, and right now, McCain seems a better man than Obama...unless we are talkin' looks...

He's also a former prisoner of war. In Vietnam. He doesn't like to talk about it much, though. It takes enhanced interrogation - or the presence of a camera or a microphone or a human ear - to get him to talk about it.

If John McCain owned a forest and a tree fell in it with no one around, would it make a sound like P-O-W when it hit the ground?

A whiff?

They're entirely creepy! They're a big part of why I gave up on watching ANY conventions after Clinton I. Remember the Boy from Hope? Aiiieeee! Though the Reagan ones were not safe for diabetics, either.

I hate all the videos. It is one thing if we just have them for the candidates, I think that might be kind of ok, but now we have them for everybody!

Agree with Megan - these videos are creepy. But then, I find the whole political convention atmosphere to be pretty creepy.

Did anyone else watch the Cindy McCain video? I found it a bit creepy when they described how Cindy met a "Captain McCain" at a Navy party and that they both lied about their ages (he was 41 and she was 24, I believe). Nor did they mention that he was married at the time of their meeting.
I don't fault him in any of this, but they painted this fairytale picture of their meeting while it was a little creepier than that.

Funny, the videos reminded me of the videos that couples sometimes play at weddings. Although at weddings, it's a nice interlude, whereas at the convention, it's a nice, scripted and controlled way of bringing in the main event.

I think actor Robert Davi narrated the John McCain video and Gary Sinise narrated the Cindy McCain video.

It's worse than that. He likes her to dress in black pajamas and beat him with a riding crop as part of foreplay. She even learned a little Vietnamese as part of their "special relationship."

Great, thanks Moe.

Now I have nothing to do all day AND a huge erection.

God, he was a handsome man in his forties.
