I'm back

10 Oct 2008 10:06 am

Sorry for the absence, but I've been sick for almost two weeks now, and I needed a rest; even lying perfectly still in bed, I was wheezing so badly that a friend who brought me supplies started calling me "Darth".  Having recovered (just barely) enough to get on a train to New York for an afternoon panel, I am now back at the keyboard.

Thank goodness you were able to make a recovery. Just think how creepy it would have been if you hadn't, what with your last post being "No liveblogging from me".

Glad you are feeling a little better - don't work too hard and risk making yourself worse again.

Ever notice that vegans and vegetarians are always sick?

Glad you're well. I figured you got better last week, starting reading the financial papers and decided to crawl back into bed and hide.

That's not a knock on you; I reckon most of us feel that way right now.

Welcome back! It's good to hear you're feeling better.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

You raise a good point. This could be zombieblogging.

Anyway, looking forward to a post that will restore the illusion that I know WTF is going on and give some shape to the sick feeling in my stomach.

Glad to have you back. Remember - Take plenty of Garlic and Echinacea. We need you here to provide a guide to this foolishness!

Yes, is called the Ben Stein Flue.

One would be advised to check out Art Devany's evo fitness. Saying " you are best adapted to the environment which your ancient ancestors evolved in. Doesn't explain why."

It's not just evolution. It's evolution because complex adaptive systems are disproportionately determined by extreme events.

So, junk that bike of yours for a mountain bike and ride up the steepest hills you can find. And junk those fad diets of processed carbs.

Welcome back Megan. Hope you are back to good and full health soon!

Breathing is a funny thing. We don't think about it until we can't do it and then, when we can't do it it is all one can think about!

Would an iron lung help? I think I have an old one in my basement I can loan you.

Don't worry Megan, you didn't miss anything important in the past 2 weeks.

I have to say that very good cardiovascular conditioning is likely the best preventative to respiratory illnesses. I took up serious running about 13 years ago and I have not suffered from more than a very mild cold in the entire time.

Hey Megan, glad you're back. I went through what you described a couple times some years ago, and it was like a train hitting me. I could barely breathe at times, and at its worst, I could not stop coughing for hours on end.

Keep recovering, and maybe the markets will follow.

Yes, it's horrible having a cold.

Darth Megan, wielder of a glowing pink 2x4.

This begs for a photoshop. How much mileage has Reynolds gotten out of that "I had an abortion" T-shirt and the puppy blender business? This could be the new meme in classic Yankee Doodle style...

C'mon Megan, are you seriously ok? Or are you exercising the stubborness self-evident in your last name? Usually thats a compliment, but your repeated remission makes it a cautionary tale.

Aw, Megan, I've missed you. Hope you feel better soon.

Paul Milenkovic

One more reason to drive and not use public/common-carrier transportation.

There are all manners of upper respiratory illnesses, they are generally highly contagious but not particularly life-threatening or even impairing the ability of most people to go about daily activities.

But, a "cold" that puts a person in bed for two weeks is bordering on a serious medical condition. Something that progresses into lung congestion and perhaps into a pneuomonia and be life-threatening.

I worry about colds because I am in a profession that puts me in contact with large numbers of people who are susceptible to colds owing to the stress I impose on them, their varied eating and sleep habits, and the close quarters in which they live and spend the day, the fact that it is really, really difficult for me to take a day off from work, and that I have a father in a nursing home, and I try to keep myself nursing-home-visit qualified as much as possible, although there have been times I have gotten these really bad coughing "colds" and have been denied visitation with my father for weeks at a time.

So tell me Megan, what were you doing on Amtrak today?

Glad you're back. It would be nice, however, if Andrew would take more breaks! I hope you'll do more bloggingheads episodes. I would especially like to hear your opinion if Paulson made a huge error not bailing out Lehman Brothers, hence causing the meltdown of the past weeks. Also, I would like to hear more of your opinion of the election since you are probably the fairest of the Atlantic contributors.

Hope you continue to recover. This is the main blog I read so you are missed when posting is light.

Thank you for your efforts.

Not related to the thread, Paul Milenkovic, but you sound like a complete wanker.

Good to have you back on the blogosphere Megan.Hope you are feeling better now. And thanks for the books list - very interesting reading !
