Two Obama voters discussing the future of the Republican party. How nice!
Megan,
Serious question:
Why do you worry about sounding "Austrian" when diagnosing the business cycle?
Why not wait until November 5th to see which party has to worry about their future? If the Dems control both houses and Obama is the grand poobah, it might very well be the most entertaining two years in American political history.......and the Dems still won't be able to solve a problem.
Megan:
As a libertarian, I just don't understand your support for Obama. The country is in a fiscal mess and the Democrats are going to start spending like crazy already by next year. There is something to be said about divided government. As for McCain's temperament, his position on the bailout was not all bad; the bill was actually made more moderate because it adopted some of the House GOP's reforms.
‘McCain has demagogued the issue of the financial crisis more than Obama,’ you all say. “The problem in the financial markets is due to the deregulation of the Bush Administration,” Obama’s statement in response to the first question in the first debate. Conclusion: It’s not demagoguery if you are talking about a true enemy of the people.
Obama is the communist (associate) in the grey flannel suit. He hasn’t done anything to upset any hierarchy. For instance, as the WSJ points out today, he wrote a letter to the Treasury secretary saying subprime was a problem but when a bill putting restrictions on the FMs needed a Democratic vote in 2005 to get out of committee he was just ‘present
Nice discussion. I also liked the very 'engaging' discussion about baseball in the beginning. This competing "my team has a more miserable history than yours" is so very trite but it never goes out of fashion...what is it about baseball that makes fans embrace tragedy? Me thinks, everyone should vow to spend at least a week without using sports as a conversation starter. The possibilities are endless...
