Playing to type

20 Nov 2008 01:58 pm

I plugged my blog into Typealizer and it told me that I'm a Meyers-Briggs ISTP.  This is hilariously wrong, about me--I'm an ENTP, and anyone who knows me would be fairly shocked at the idea of me sitting home alone, quietly cultivating my orderly, detail-oriented project execution.  On the other hand, the person who sent me the link got a pretty good read off their blog.

I got INTP with the Cranky Professor. I don't know enough to agree, but three or four blogs I admire by friends came up the same way.

I had the same results as you on my blog. I wonder if the algorithm assumes all bloggers are introverts.

It's not say that you are ISTP. It says your blog is of that type. You may personally be very different, but your product (i.e. your blog) is ISTP.

I got INTP, but I'm an ENTP.

I'm an INTJ, and I got an INTJ. Maybe ISTPs are smarter than ENTPs. You blogging can be the smartest I read in any given day (and I read Cowen & Mankiw).

I'm an INTJ, but my blog got the exact opposite result: ESFP. I have absolutely no idea what that means - perhaps I can blame it on guest contributors?

I'll take the blame for that, MM. I'm an ISTP (and damn proud of it!!!!!)

I've two blogs, with different orientations. One came out ISTJ, the other ESPF. As they say:

"By studying how people write, we can get an glimpse of what is on the mind of the person and what is characteristic of the person - or, as in the case of a blog - what is typical of the role/persona used when writing that blog. A person can have several blogs - and often have different roles for the various blogs - perhaps as a way to live out more sides of themselves."

So I guess I've a split personality.

I've taken that test a billion times and always get ENTP whereas I'm fairly sure I'm INTP. Go figure.

I just googled the Jungian mumbo jumbo that is my "sign" ENTP. It actually captures my personality pretty well: Dictator...Assassin. Cool.

Plugged in my blog and got ESTP. I took the meyers-briggs at work a few years ago and I was an ISTJ.

Well, I've gotten different Meiers Briggs scores depending on my point in life. I used to peg ENTP (or J) then later ENFJ. But apparently my blog is ESFP. Then again, an alter ego writes my blog ;)

I'm curious to know what battery of tests Alexander the Great and JEB Stuart took that showed them both to be ENTPs, as that link claims.

It pegged me as ISTP as well. Anyone who has seen me wield tools knows I am not a mechanic. I am an ENTJ. But as grad student noted, perhaps my blog is an alternate expression of my personality. I would like to think that is not the case though.

I cannot believe no one asked it yet, so I will:

WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE REAL MEGAN?

Such an easy opening I could not resist.

I got INTP from my blog, whereas when I have taken the test before I have been designated INTJ. However the only axis on the Meyers Briggs I come out very strongly one way or another is introversion, and I think anybody could get different designations different days.

Aha. I suspected you were ENTP. I'm an ENTP, but it rated my blog as INTP. I tend to get a lot more analytical in my blog, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I shared it with some INTJ buddies, and none of them have gotten their blogs rated INTJ, prompting them to dismiss the tester. I pointed out to them that INTJs tend to keep a lot to themselves, and there's no way for a program like this to analyze what they're not posting. Given how blogs work, I'm surprised any of them could be classified as extroverted. I wonder how it determines that?

I used to think I was ENTP, too, but, following yout link, I realized the whole thing is bogus. There is no way Bugs Bunny and that Coyote guy are the same kind of person. I mean, antropomorphic animal. Nor, for Christ's sake, is Q.

Myers-Briggs typing is the "Who's your favorite Beatle?" of geeks. It adds a veneer of psychological respectability to the fact that everybody likes to read "What kind of X are you?" quizzes. But it's really the nerd version of talking about your zodiacal sign, and about as meaningful.

I've taken the Meyers-Briggs quite a few times. And always it comes out as INTP. Every single time.

Yet I just got ISTP for a result from Typealyzer. And judging from what I know I put in my blog, I can see where it comes from.

So part of me has to wonder.. What is more indicative of a correct measure of personality? Is it a multiple-choice test or an analysis of a person's actual thought process? And seeing as how I have a deep and passionate loathing for multiple-choice tests, I would instinctively lean towards the latter.

Put me as ISTP too. I'm INTP/INTJ.

I have two blogs - one came across as an ENTJ, the other as INTP (which is what I consider myself to be, based on tests and my own self-analysis).

I think the idea of identifying your MB from writing to be somewhat questionable, but I do think that I come across as more assertive and judgemental on my software development blog than I do on my personal/business blog.

Heh...also an ENTP, I got pegged as an ISTJ. Ha!

Meyers-Briggs has turned into astrology for geeks.

For what it's worth., my blog scores ESTP.

This compares to an actual test result of --T-, taken at Cornell during an "Engineer as Manager" three day event.

My scores on I/E, S/N, and J/P were so low as to be insignificant, but on T/F I pretty much pegged the meter to T.

Decline and Fall

Mine was right on target. I've always scored just on the I side of INTP.

You people certainly do lead interesting lives.

Worth pointing out that the typalyzer appears to only analyze the content on the front page. So unless you input the URL for one of your archives, it's only analyzing your most recent posts.

I test out as an INTP, occasionally on the border of INTJ. My front page came back as ISTJ. But the archive page of the "science" tag came back (shockingly) as INTJ.
