Weird bailout rumor of the day

24 Dec 2008 09:59 am

I just heard a plausibly sourced rumor that Chrysler is changing its name.  That sounds like a merger, but maybe they just want to put the past behind them . . .

Changing its name to what?

Cadaver?

Changing its name to what?

Christler. They want to be associated with charity and rebirth, and maybe capitalize on some of that Christmas cheer.

Hey, it worked for ValuJet.

Confirmed.

I think the new name and logo are quite catchy, don't you? Very apropos of the times.

Jeep would be an ok name, better brand than Chrysler right now.

And they also own the Dodge brand, but I doubt that's worth anything..

TallDave,

Looks like my rumor-starting is bearing fruit, or at least I hope I was the first person to suggest the new US Motor company would name a car The Pelosi.

Yancy,

I suspect the first new vehicle produced by the US Motor Company will look like a cross between the Yugo and the Lada and will be called the Yada.

Once it goes into production, it will be Yada, Yada, Yada. (Apologies to Jerry Seinfeld.)

I believe the new name is "Chrysler in Liquidation."

They could just replace the name badge with the tow truck phone number. That would be convenient.

Really though, it would be a mistake for Chrysler to change its name. It worked for Datsun/Nissan because Datsun had no glorious past in North America. They decided to go upmarket with their cars and changed the name accordingly.

Chrysler doesn't need a name change, they need to go back to make unshitty cars that are worthy of their brand.

They need to make a car called the UnregulatedFreeMarket. No matter how many times one crashes, there will still be people insisting it's the only kind that it's moral to drive.
