Let her take him to small claims court if he owes her money.
I'm always wary of parting with my money electronically, especially in light of that truism:
Heartbreaking story + online solicitation for money = scam
The ease of this crime is augmented by the the way the internet facilitates one person appearing to be several. I never have the time to do the due diligence to determine if the recipient is on the level, so I generally donate to organizations where I can have full confidence my money is used for good.
Megan,
What if Mona works for GM?
Is this person or business in bankruptcy proceedings. If so, it's illegal to pay Mona out of turn...
Also appalling: Link to Mona is 404!
404 now, what was the story? I hate missing out.
Mona deleted the post, as it came to light the guy had tried to contact her repeatedly, but couldn't due to an ISP failure. They contacted one another by phone, and he promised her he would pay as he could.
Let her take him to small claims court if he owes her money.
That is not feasible when one lives hundreds of miles from the guy who owes the money -- tho I could have done it locally, it is still an expense not worth the amount at issue, what with the possibility of never recovering.
But in any event, the two of us have resolved the issue. He had a bad history of not answering emails of those writers to whom he owes $$, but in this instance I have seen compelling proof that he did try to email me. And we've worked it out by phone.
I don't work for GM, btw. I work only at home doing writing and copy-editing.
