Froomkin Fired

18 Jun 2009 03:16 pm

Dan Froomkin is out at the Post, for reasons that aren't clear to me.  Was there really room for only one liberal political blogger?

It could be there isn't as much need to watch the White House now.

Or it could be that the Post has to cut back on their money losing operations, Kaplan can't keep them afloat forver.

Its just further proof of the liberal bias of the MSM (they still have one liberal left!!! biased biased biased).

"Was there really room for only one liberal political blogger?"

They seem to be reducing their bloggers. They've still got Ezra, of course. And they've also got Greg Sargent at their "Who Runs Gov". But they got rid of (or sent to the Obama campaign) Philip Carter and moved William Arkin over to their "discussions".

Of course, there isn't room for ANY conservative bloggers at the WaPo, so I don't know what the left wing whining is all about.

Have you looked at the WaPo op-ed page lately? Broder, Kraphammer, Bill "William the Bloody" Kristol, George Will. Want more? Just because they have a few liberal bloggers, doesn't mean they get the same status as the op-ed writers.

Eugene Robinson, E. J. Dionne and Ruth Marcus are all also denizens of the Post's opinion page. Want more?

Froomkin spent the Bush years bashing the White House, and demonstrated that he was going to spend the Obama years praising it. There's no reason to duplicate what's going on elsewhere in the paper.

Actually, Froomkin had increasingly criticized the Obama Administration on civil liberty issues. He had a minor feud with Krauthammer about torture. Froomkin was becoming an Obama critic from the left, which may be why the Post decided it was time to part ways.

I hadn't read anything by Froomkin in a couple of years, but back then he just seemed to trawl the internet to quote anti-bush stuff from other bloggers, adding no content himself. I take it he had progressed since then?
